What are the responsibilities and job description for the Activities Aide position at Brentwood Nursing Home?
Brentwood Nursing Home is looking for a Full-time Activity Aide. We are a 96-bed facility located in Warwick, RI. This position requires working Monday through Friday with weekend flexibility.
Position Purpose/Summary:
The Activities Aide is responsible for facilitating a supportive, social atmosphere that promotes well-being, dignity, and purposefulness for the residents in their care. Recreation staff are expected to lead planned and spontaneous group and individual recreation activities/ programs as assigned by the Activities Director.
Recreation staff will follow all department/facility policies and procedures to ensure that all residents' spiritual, emotional, and social needs are met and maintained.
Qualifications:
- High School Education Diploma or GED required.
- At least three years' experience in long-term care.
- At least two years experience in an Activities Department in the health care field preferred, or equivalent.
- Either volunteer or paid experience with geriatric/frail elderly preferred.
Populations Served:
- Services provided to internal and external people of all ages, primarily the geriatric population.
Required Competencies at the end of Orientation:
- Infection Control policies and procedures.
- Safety/Fire/Disaster/OSHA/Mutual Aid Planning regulations.
- Resident Rights.
- Abuse reporting.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Possess knowledge of the mental, physical, & recreational needs & limitations of the geriatric population.
- Must be able to read, write & speak the English language.
- Willingness to work days, evenings, weekends & holidays as requested.
Physical Demands:
- In performance of job duties, may lift equipment supplies, & stand, sit, walk, reach, bend,
- Kneels, pushes, pulls, & moves intermittently throughout the workday in well-lighted/ventilated areas.
- Works in all facility areas & subject to frequent interruptions, infectious diseases, substances, etc.
- Be economical & careful with supplies, equipment, materials, etc.
- Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function
- Adequately to fulfill the requirements of this position.
- Must be in good general health & demonstrate emotional stability.
- Must be able to relate to & work, under all conditions/circumstances, with the ill, disabled, elderly,
- Emotionally upset, & at times , hostile people within the facility.
