The Log Sales Manager will drive the entire lifecycle of log sales activities from timber procurement, scaling, marketing and merchandising to sales /account management. This position will focus on expanding Brownlee Lumber Company’s market position for log procurement and sales while assisting our Forestry Team with procurement of timber tracts. This position will develop and execute strategic plans to grow our log sales program by building key customer relationships, identifying new market opportunities, negotiating, and closing log sales.
The Log Sales Manager will directly report to the President in his capacity as the Head of Forestry and work with the Chief Operating Officer and VP of Operations to coordinate sales, operations, and logistics. This position will also work closely with the Forestry Team to continually evaluate all timber opportunities for potential log sales and provide additional support to general procurement efforts for the sawmill.

Areas of Responsibilities:
Log Sales
- Evaluate available timber supplies to forecast, plan, and execute log sales activities.
- Advise Forestry Team to improve overall timber acquisition and harvests.
- Identify timber tracts and logs with high potential for veneer and other valuable log sales.
- Scale, track, and prepare log inventory per Brownlee Lumber Company processes and standards.
- Merchandise retail log inventories to maximize value and sales potential.
- Establish, maintain, and grow key relationships with qualified log buyers and industry influencers.
- Generate and close new business opportunities for high potential log sales.
- Coordinate supply chain and logistics, including hands-on operation of log loader, to ensure successful log delivery to customers.
- Assist leadership with supply chain planning and logistics optimization.
- Promote company values and quality standards to enhance Brownlee Lumber Company’s brand story for our team members and customers.
Log Procurement
- Secure log buying opportunities from outside sources.
- Purchase veneer and other valuable saw logs to support sales development efforts and sawmill production.
- Establish positive, effective relationships with log venders and all stakeholders.
Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to build rapport through active listening and empathy.
- Outstanding capacity for negotiating “win-win” scenarios while maintaining company objectives.
- Capable of working both in team environments and acting as a self-starter.
- Strong skills in problem solving, determination to work through difficult challenges.
- Supportive and motivational toward team members, vendors, contractors, and customers.
- Ability to operate heavy machinery and tools (Log loader, chainsaw, company vehicle).
- Excellent analytical skills with desire to innovate, learn and reiterate.
- Strong commitment to personal, team, and contractor safety.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry or related field (or 3-5 years of equivalent experience).
- At least 3-5 years of successful timber and log buying / selling experience required.
- General to advanced knowledge of logging practices. Basic knowledge of sawmill operations.
- Willingness to work flexible schedule often outdoors in adverse weather conditions and harsh terrain.
- Good computer skills with working knowledge of forestry mapping, scaling hardware and Enterprise Resource Planning software.
- Valid, clean PA Drivers License
- Current SFI training, or current within 6 months of hire.
