Grants Accountant - Position Overview:
- The Grants Accountant performs advanced accounting functions in the management of the organization’s business affairs.
- Ensures company accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles.
- The Grants Accountant will be responsible for providing support for the budgeting, reporting, and management of the organizations grants.
- The team member will be called to provide account analysis and reconciliation(s) and provide valuable support for federal, state, and other organizational compliance and reporting.
- The position may also assist management in understanding its business and identifies future opportunities through special projects.
Job Responsibilities:
- Monitoring spending to ensure stewardship is met as it relates to grant funding.
- Assist in forecasting grant spending and modifying grant budgets as needed.
- Responsible for understanding current subgrantee manuals along with the rules and regulations within.
- Responsible for determining if costs are necessary, reasonable, allocable, and allowable in accordance with Uniform Guidance for federally funded awards.
- Assist and support Senior Director of Finance in the development of grant budgets and potential opportunities based on data from key staff, actual financial information and dialogue/meetings with management to obtain information needed, agreed upon timelines and other pertinent information. Identify advantages/disadvantages based upon the analysis.
- Responsible for the preparation of cash requests from various funding agencies due on the 10th of each month, and ensuring compliance with grant award. Grant responsibilities will be assigned each year with the renewal of grant applications
- Responsible for preparation of grant reporting and submission of grant requests for reimbursement to include working through the payroll accountant/system to ensure that employee allocations are adequate and regular review of the status of grant monies drawn down and available to guarantee adequate usage of monies awarded.
- Assist Director of Accounting and AP & Grants Manager with grant audits and pulls together the needed documentation to verify compliance with rules regarding all expenditures, purchases and capital equipment records.
- Prepare or assist in providing information for periodic reports to comply with grant requirements.
- Review grants from governmental agencies and private foundations to determine overall compliance with grant requirements. Prepare grant budgets for requests for proposals and monitors the spending of awards.
- Complete special projects as assigned through the process of gathering and analyzing data, presenting data in a concise and understandable format.
- Responsible for demonstrating sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural/socioeconomic differences in the organization/program service population.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (or related field) and three (3) years’ related experience, or an equivalent combination of advance degree and accounting experience.
- Must have excellent communications and computer skills.
- Strong knowledge of financial software required.
- Must possess solid analytical skills and ability to think strategically, must possess good judgment and a high level of initiative and independence.
- Must have knowledge of financial accounting, and budgeting.
- Must be willing to use personal vehicle for organizational travel as required.
