Payroll Specialist
SUMMARY
Compiles and maintains personnel records by performing the following duties:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Includes the following. Other duties might be assigned:
- Process payroll for multi-state locations.
- Maintain all confidential personnel and payroll records in a manner to ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations regarding employment.
- Keeps abreast of FLSA laws and payroll laws related to multi state payroll processing.
- Assist with the Human Relation function in a manner to promote positive human relations and employee morale consistent with a team-based environment.
- Maintains Human Resources Information System (HRIS) with current employee data and run reports as needed
- Compute and approve payments for assigned program(s); approve payment for claims; maintain records of benefits payments and reconcile with monthly billing statements.
- Assists active employees who have questions about their benefit packages and various insurance claims; troubleshoots problems; serve as interface between employee and vendors when required; presents benefit orientation as a part of new hire orientation.
- Maintains field compliance with federal, state and local employment laws, regulations and posters
- Coordinates and initiates actions required to activate various benefits programs for employees and to ensure notification and proper enrollment of employees eligible for participation in benefit programs; maintain records reflecting employee participation in benefits programs.
- Administers specific benefit programs, such as disability plans, retirement plans, and unemployment policies for employees.
- Assists in company audits by preparing and organizing the required HR documents for review.
- Conducts special projects and other miscellaneous duties appropriate to the position as assigned or required.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- This position requires a high level of flexibility, excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Confidentiality is of utmost importance.
- This position is also very service centered and very seasonal by nature.
- Different times during the calendar year dictate various responsibilities in addition to the essential duties outlined above.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) or equivalent or three or more years of professional related experience in human resources and payroll or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Previous payroll processing experience is a must.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous multi-state experience preferred
- Web-based payroll software experience required; Paylocity is a plus.
- Knowledge of garnishments/deductions required
- Intermediate to advance MS Excel proficiency
