Yard Operations and Shunt Supervisor
Department: Document Control Job Status: Full-Time Reports to: Operations Manager II
As a team member in the cross-dock operations, you will be a part of Carter Express’ competitive and lively work environment. Yard Operations Supervisors are the center of supply chain cross docking in the Carter Network and play a vital role in the manufacturing of popular brands of vehicles seen on the road today. This position requires the ability to perform in a high-energy, fast-paced environment. Attention to safety and the ability to coach, lead and train others in a positive and professional manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and direct work assignments to hourly shunt personnel at the cross-dock.
- Training and coaching of new and current team members.
- Monitoring and coaching safe and effective work practices.
- Scheduling and planning operational coverage including weekend requirements.
- Ensuring coverage for vacation time or call offs.
- When necessary be able and willing to backfill an open position regardless of shift.
- Communicate well with internal and external drivers and companies.
- Process paperwork, emails, and communicate between dock personnel and other facilities.
- Oversee quarterly employee reviews for each employee.
- Work and collaborate with dispatch and the cross-dock operations team.
- Communicate to the Operations Manager and other stakeholders, any gaps identified in the inbound and outbound equipment flow or shift coverage.
- Coordinate hiring needs with your supervisor and recruiting team.
- Perform safety audits and coaching and corrective action when applicable.
- Be able to coach driving technique along with process improvements.
- Training follow-up.
- Oversee shunt and shuttle drivers for each shift including accounting for them reporting to work and ensuring they have the information needed to move equipment.
- Manage driver’s hours, overtime, and time off requests.
- Establish a positive working relationship with drivers and office staff to reflect our cultural vision.
- Work with maintenance team to keep all units in good working condition.

EDUCATION:
EXPERIENCE:
One (1) year of leadership experience preferred. Knowledge of standard warehouse and DOT policy preferred. CDL or previous shunting experience is required. Two (2) years preferred experience in the field of Logistics and Supply Chain or warehousing.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage a team of drivers in the yard.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Computer literate; proficient with Microsoft Windows, HRIS systems, MS Office programs, YMS, and applications such as Outlook, Excel, Word, and Internet Explorer. Proficiency in email communication and reporting required.

Must be detailed oriented. Must be able to work as a team and collaborate. Must be able to effectively communicate and listen to team members. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently close to moving material handling and over the road equipment. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
