The Release of Information (ROI) Specialist is responsible for processing all assigned requests for medical records in a timely, efficient manner while ensuring accuracy and the highest quality service to our customers and patients. This position must, always, safeguard and protect the patient's right to privacy by ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to the patient's medical information and that all requests follow the organizations policies as well as federal/state statutes, such as HIPAA. Additionally, this position is required to continually perform at a high quality and productivity level. This position interacts with several departments, agencies, patients, etc., and must uphold the highest level of professionalism and customer service at all times.

Position Overview:

  • Process all incoming requests for medical record via mail, phone, fax and email.
  • Maintain skills and knowledge of release of information laws (state and federal)
  • Answer telephone calls and department emails promptly and courteously.
  • Assist patients/customers with requesting medical records assistance as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers, patients and customers.
  • Pays close attention to details (PHI, Policies, ROI, etc)
  • Works well as a team player

Minimum Qualifications:

Requirements:

Education - High School Diploma or GED required, Associates Degree preferred; or formalized medical record technician training preferred.

Experience - Minimum of one (1) year experience in electronic medical record environment or related activities involving production work, use of computer and familiarity with health information management. Licensure - RHIT preferred.

Physical Requirements - The position requires a high degree of mental and visual concentration. Some lifting requirements. Requires long period of sitting, with repetitive motion.
