Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Child Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to supporting individuals through various challenges, utilizing a range of therapeutic techniques. This role requires a deep understanding of domestic violence and children, crisis management, and effective communication skills to foster a safe and supportive environment for clients.

Job Summary: This is a full-time, grant funded position of 40 hours per week. This position requires the employee to provide children’s counseling and facilitate parenting classes. As a children’s counselor the employee will be responsible for conducting children’s counseling sessions in an outpatient setting. The children’s counselor will be working with children who have been impacted by domestic violence. The children’s counselor will start with a case load of 10-12 clients. This position requires late afternoon and evening hours. This position also provides services to clients by facilitating weekly parenting education classes. The employee will conduct parenting class intakes and assess each parent needs and link him/her to services in the community, if needed. Employee will prepare letters or reports to other agencies and/or court officials as requested.

Primary Duties/Functions:

Responsible for child counseling ages 5-17; client intakes, long-term goal planning; safety planning, titrating service as needed

Responsible for answering Lethality Assessment Program telephone line as assigned by Supervisor

Maintains accurate records regarding all statistical data, case notes, data entry, and timesheet

Manage crises effectively, ensuring the safety and well-being of clients during sessions

Assist supervisor in producing monthly statistical reports

Attend staff meetings, supervision and other assigned meetings or trainings

Assist with outreach events and presentations in the community

Assumes other responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor

Educational Requirements:

Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, Clinical Social Work, Professional Counseling, Mental Health Counseling, or other related field and professional license or working toward obtaining licensure within first year of employment as defined by the NC Board of Licensed Professional Counselors (NCBLPC). Must obtain 20 hours of domestic violence or position related training per year.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $41,500.00 - $45,000.00 per year
