Health Informatics Specialist Job Description
We seek a results-driven health informatics specialist to evaluate data and improve our healthcare services. You will be gathering and evaluating healthcare data, developing effective healthcare information systems, and enabling us to collaborate on targeted healthcare service improvements.
To ensure success, health informatics specialists should possess extensive experience in evaluating healthcare data and the ability to develop health information systems. An outstanding health informatics specialist will be someone whose expertise contributes to optimized health services and quality patient care.
Responsibilities for health informatics specialist
- Provides On-Call support off hours
- Serves as a physician and nurse resource throughout assigned facility and entire division
- Facilitates required physician and nurse training
- Collaborates with other departments to meet physician and nurse educational needs troubleshoots offers guidance and resolves physician and nursing clinical systems issues
- Responds to physicians’ and nurses’ clinical systems issues as soon as possible, taking appropriates steps to resolve in a timely manner
- Assists in preparing policies and procedures, training materials, and provides any necessary information to physicians and nurses (including downtime and recovery procedures)
- Assists with pilot programs and all projects in collaboration with AHS-IS and the facility
- Facility Project Lead for projects rolled out by AHS-IS to the facility
- Expert in computer science, information technology, clinical decision support, physician and nursing clinical workflow and processes
- Analyzing and interpreting data to identify areas that need improvement.
- Developing health information systems that support the collection, sharing, standardization, and integration of healthcare data.
- Collaborating on improving standards of care, policies, and procedures.
- Training healthcare staff in health information system deployment and management.
- Providing technical support, optimizing network security, and maintaining databases.
- Ensuring compliance with healthcare information management regulations.
- Documenting processes, maintaining records, and preparing reports.
- Keeping abreast of advancements in the field of health informatics.
Job Details:
- Hybrid. Will require onsite hours depending on project.
- Travel up to 15%. Onsite Support for facility initiatives may be required. These will be planned initiates and schedules outlined prior foot feasibility for all.
Qualifications
Qualifications for Health Informatics Specialist
- Integrates medical science, nursing science, and information science to identify, acquire, preserve, manage, retrieve, aggregate, analyze and transmit information to make it meaningful and useful to clinical practice
- Identifies clinical practice workflow and process improvement opportunities
- Provides leadership and guidance to improve system performance and technology utilization by physicians and nurses and other clinicians
- Supports physicians, nurses, and other clinicians by providing continuous support, troubleshooting, and identifying opportunities for clinical information system improvements
- Supports efforts related to the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of Cerner/CPOE (Computer Provider Order Entry)
- Actively participates in training, process improvement, workflows, communication, education, implementation of various projects, and is often the facility project lead
- A minimum of two years' experience as a health informatics specialist.
- Advanced proficiency in programming languages and EMR software, such as SQL and Epic.
- Exceptional knowledge of health information system design and database management.
- In-depth knowledge of best practices in healthcare information management.
- Superb analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in informatics (preferred)
- B.A or B.S and 1 year of experience with a hospital based Electronic Medical Record or an associate’s degree in nursing and 1 year of experience with a hospital based Electronic Medical Record
- Minimum of 4 years of Financial/Clinical Experience in the managed care industry or Public Health Care
- Proven experience in managing multiple priorities and agility in adapting to change
- Proven skill in understanding individual market dynamics (healthcare providers, employers, and competitors, skill/experience in quality/payment innovation programs, health plan performance,) to set strategies/tactics to achieve both cost and quality objectives
- 3 years clinical patient care experience within an EMR environment required
- Two or more years of experience in an analyst or related role in a business, government or nonprofit setting strongly preferred
