Job Summary
The Pre-Construction/Project Estimator plays a critical role in the success of our commercial building construction projects. This position is responsible for preparing contract proposal estimates across one or more disciplines, determining applicable project plans, and analyzing specifications. Key responsibilities include reviewing project scope, preparing estimates, and maintaining accurate cost data. The role is integral to ensuring project feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and accuracy while building strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine the scope of work and necessary estimate contents.
- Prepare detailed discipline estimates by calculating complete takeoff and pricing for each project’s scope of work.
- Maintain comprehensive backup documentation for estimates, ensuring current and accurate pricing from suppliers through direct contact, sales brochures, and price lists.
- Support other departments by preparing estimates for various disciplines or operational requirements, including change orders.
- Review design options and recommend optimal solutions based on cost, quality, and material availability.
- Incorporate historical project data, including purchase orders, subcontracts, and cost reports, into future unit and man-hour estimates.
- Solicit and analyze subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure competitive and accurate pricing.
- Build strong working relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to secure favorable quotes.
- Identify and report on future work opportunities and promote the organization when possible.
- Communicate construction methods contemplated in the bid to the Superintendent and monitor actual performance efficiency against bid units for future reference.
- Perform additional assignments as directed by supervisors.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
- Four-year degree in Construction, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent technical training and experience.
- 2 to 5 years of estimating or construction experience related to commercial building projects.
- Advanced knowledge of estimating techniques, cost control, and the ability to interpret computerized cost data.
- Experience with alternative delivery models and proposal preparation is preferred.

- Proficiency in estimating software and tools.
- Ability to work independently on small to medium-sized projects with minimal supervision.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Comprehensive understanding of construction disciplines and cost control.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, particularly with subcontractors and suppliers.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in estimating.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant estimating software.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
