This position reports to the Dean of the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
Position Summary
The responsibilities of this position comprise of teaching both undergraduate and graduate level courses in the Computer Science and Data Science programs. The Adjunct Faculty is expected to remain current in the discipline and pedagogy. The Adjunct Faculty participate actively in curriculum delivery, development, and assessment. The Adjunct Faculty will hold regular office hours in support of students. The Adjunct Faculty will perform all duties professionally and ethically, and support the policies and mission of the University.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Meet faculty responsibilities as described by Chaminade University’s Policy Manual IV.
- Support policies as stated in the Chaminade School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics Handbook and in course syllabi.
- Participate in meetings related to the course(s) being taught.
- Demonstrate and encourage critical thinking skills.
- Demonstrate and maintain a professional relationship with administration, faculty, staff, and students.
- Communicate clearly with administration, faculty, staff, and students.
- Serve as a professional role model for students.
- Maintain high standards and promote excellence in education.
- Demonstrate ongoing professional competency by seeking new knowledge, improving teaching skills, and remaining current in the academic discipline.
- Design, execute, and assess courses in Computer Science and Data Science, Analytics and Visualization.
- Collaborate with data collection and tracking student outcomes in support of extramurally funded programs at the request of the Chair in Data Science, Analytics and Visualization.
- Any other duties as assigned by the Chair in Data Science, Analytics and Visualization and Dean of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.

Qualifications
Minimum Education
Required: Master’s in Computer Science, Data Science, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university. Applicants with a Bachelor’s and appropriate experience may be qualified pending approval by the Provost.
Minimum Experience
- Experience in project-based, community-engaged, and active learning curriculum.
- Experience teaching mathematics and statistics; programming languages; software and hardware design, development, and implementation; or research or related courses at the undergraduate or graduate level.
- Experience and delivering training programs in computer science, data science, or in related field.
- Familiarity or experience with artificial intelligence, machine learning, high performance computing, open-source tools, cloud computing, or cybersecurity.
Minimum Skills
- Demonstrate expertise in the following technical skill set is required: mathematics, statistics, and algorithms; databases; programming; operating systems and networks; computer architecture; or software and hardware design, development, and implementation.
- Languages: SQL, Python, Java, and other languages are welcome.
- Experience developing, delivering, and assessing active learning and project-based courses.
- Experience presenting in front of technical and non-technical groups.
- Experience developing and executing course content for offline and online computer environments.
- Good communication and presentation skills to explain complex technical concepts to students.
- Computer literate with an excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point); learning management systems (e.g. Canvas); e-mail programs; and the internet. Has knowledge and experience in using common office equipment such as copiers and scanners.
- Ability to design and implement programs of study such as training and workshops, designing learning outcomes, assembling content and delivering lectures, and delivering and managing class activities.
- Ability to prioritize work and resources.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- High integrity and ethical standards.
Physical Requirements
Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills. Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.
Other Requirements
- This is a part time, exempt position. Nineteen hours per week (M-F) will be the general rule. However, depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required. Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and a varying schedule
