Job Title: Detention Center Maintenance Person
Job Summary: The Detention Center Maintenance Person is responsible for performing routine and emergency maintenance duties to ensure the safety, cleanliness, and proper functioning of the detention facility. This role involves maintaining building systems, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and assisting in the upkeep of the facility's physical infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facility Maintenance: Perform routine inspections and maintenance of building systems, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, lighting, and security systems to ensure proper operation.
- Repairs and Troubleshooting: Respond promptly to maintenance requests and troubleshoot issues such as broken fixtures, malfunctioning equipment, and other facility-related problems.
- Cleaning and Sanitation: Ensure cleanliness and hygiene in common areas, restrooms, hallways, and other public spaces. This may involve cleaning floors, walls, windows, and vents.
- Groundskeeping: Maintain the exterior grounds of the detention center, including mowing lawns, trimming bushes, removing trash, and ensuring the safety of walkways and parking areas.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure that the facility complies with safety regulations by inspecting fire alarms, emergency exits, and safety equipment regularly. Report any hazards or unsafe conditions immediately.
- Inventory Management: Track and maintain supplies and materials necessary for repairs and maintenance. Order replacement parts and tools as needed.
- Assisting Contractors: Work alongside contractors and vendors for major repairs or facility upgrades, ensuring that work is completed in a timely manner and meets safety and quality standards.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including repair logs, safety inspections, and inventory records.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the detention center staff, including security officers, administrators, and other personnel, to ensure that maintenance activities do not interfere with the daily operation of the facility.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Technical certification or vocational training in maintenance or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in building maintenance, custodial work, or facility management is preferred, particularly in a correctional or institutional setting.
- Skills:
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance.
- Familiarity with safety protocols and building codes.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, stand, bend, and climb ladders. Work in confined spaces may be required.
- Background Check: Must pass a criminal background check and adhere to security protocols within the detention center.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in a detention facility environment, requiring interaction with correctional staff and potential detainees.
