Summary:  The director of maintenance is responsible for the overall operation of facilities and keeping the district facilities in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times.  Position starts March 3,2025. Salary is commensurate with background and experience.  Job will remain open until filled.

 

Qualifications/Education:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the central office (after employment offer is made).
  • Ability to implement and follow all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
  • Alternative qualifications as the USD 309 Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Valid Kansas driver’s license.
  • General knowledge of electrical, plumbing and HVAC.
  • General knowledge of custodial services
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and supervise staff
  • Demonstrated people skills
  • Willingness to learn
  • Ability to react to changes and frequent interruptions in a productive, positive manner

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Examine school buildings on a regular basis for needed repairs and maintenance.
  • Establish and recommend priorities on repair projects.
  • Estimate cost of repair projects in terms of labor, material, and overhead.
  • Assign and supervise crews of trades people for maintenance work such as replacing worn or defective wiring, switches, faucets, plumbing fixtures, and the like.
  • Coordinate work, inspect work, and assist crew members.
  • Develop a system for dealing with emergency repair problems.
  • Report on costs of work done, materials used, labor expended.
  • Order materials as needed, and make recommendations of supplies and equipment for purchase.
  • Assign work orders, checks drawings and plans.
  • Consult with building principals regarding the establishment of regular maintenance programs.
  • Approve time sheets for payroll and other records as required.
  • Recruit, screen, recommend for hiring, and train all trade people necessary to the maintenance program.
  • Advise on the hiring of contractors to perform certain maintenance or repair services.
  • Organize and oversee snow removal as needed
  • Support the mission of the school district and report to the Superintendent and the Board of Education on a regular basis
  • Recruit and recommend for hire, all custodial and maintenance staff as needed.
  • Assign and supervise crews of trades to assign and supervise crews of "trade".
  • Maintain school property and grounds.
  • Supervise and evaluate all custodial and maintenance staff
  • Conduct periodic custodial in-service training
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to school district facilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor and in accordance with the provisions of the USD 309 Board of Education

  • Ability to keep student and personnel information and records confidential

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires prolonged (over 75% of time) standing and walking.
  • Frequently requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry or push heavy objects or materials up to 60 lbs.
  • Physical health as required for job performance; must have physical ability to wet mop, dust mop, vacuum, dust, shovel snow, and other related custodial tasks. Requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, reaching, climbing and balancing.
  • Ability to tolerate dust, fumes, odors and/or chemical smells
  • Must work in noisy and crowded environments, with numerous interruptions.
  • Ability to work indoor and outdoor year-round in a variety of temperatures and climate.
