What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Parks & Recreation Worker – Summer Therapeutic Recreation Staff position at Chesterfield County?
High school diploma or GED; two years of college coursework, preferably in Therapeutic Recreation or related field and/or equivalent direct experience working with individuals with disabilities; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. First aid/CPR certification preferred. Must possess and be able to demonstrate behavior management knowledge and techniques. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
Are you looking for a fun-filled seasonal summer position helping kids, teens, and adults have the best time at a variety of summer camps and program? We are seeking Inclusion Coaches and Summer Camp Counselors who have experience working, planning, implementing, and organizing activities for those with disabilities. Individuals will be working as inclusion coaches at the Therapeutic Recreation camps as well as other camps, events, and programs provided by different areas of Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation. We are seeking individuals who can provide a great camp experience by:
- Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating programs;
- Working with others as a team to create and successfully implement day to day schedules and programs;
- Demonstrating disability and behavior management skills;
- Communicating clearly to individuals and groups to explain activity steps, rules, and safety instructions to maintain an orderly activity and a safe environment;
- Being able to lift and move the different equipment and supplies needed for the activity;
- Maintaining the camp facilities and equipment used during the programs;
- Being able to provide verbal cues for some activities of daily living if necessary;
- Modifying instructions and activities;
- Ensuring that all rules and safety measures are followed;
- Taking on leadership roles as needed;
- Filling out and completing all necessary forms;
- Working with other staff to run the Therapeutic Recreation camp as well as other programming;
- Assisting individuals with different program activities and providing an inclusive environment for all;
- Perform other work as required.
Shift varies: Monday - Friday: flexible hours between 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.; includes some evenings, weekends, and holidays
Salary : $19 - $22
