What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Advocate Youth Court Alliance position at Children's Aid Society?

The Family Advocate is a collaborative Youth Court Alliance Program team member. Under the general supervision of the Director of Clinical Services, the Family Advocate is responsible for creating, providing and coordinating services and activities with families and communities that foster strength, healthy living and overall well-being. The Family Advocate also provides support in a case management style and acts as a liaison between families, team members, the community and other family-related services.


The Family Advocate will ensure that a trusting and collaborative process is implemented in each family with a specific focus on the best interest of the child experiencing school attendance challenges. The Family Advocate will recognize and identify each family’s risk and protective factors, respect the diverse cultures and values of each family, and establish professional roles and boundaries while working with families.


Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Provide in-home support to build student/family resiliency, financial stability through budgeting and education, better physical and mental health, improved child and parent behavioral management and stable housing.
  • Work closely with the YCA team to identify students who may benefit from Family Advocacy and process the referrals to engage student/family participation.
  • Provide family management counseling along with assistance with food, toiletries, clothing, toys, furniture, gas cards, etc. To help families challenged by school attendance issues to create stability in their life situation that may then improve student school attendance.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Rehabilitation Services or similar
  • At least two years, or more, experience in Case Management
  • Experience working with culturally diverse families, communities, and teams
  • Superb dispute and conflict resolution skills

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Excellent Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) skills
  • Excellent organizational and IT skills
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish speaking/writing)
  • Interpersonal verbal and listening skills are required to communicate effectively with patients and families and with other clinicians and client-care personnel.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Full-time (40-hours), and typical hours and workdays may vary between Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required to meet client and/or organizational needs. Must be available to participate in afterschool programming.


Travel

Frequent and daily travel is expected for this position and eligible for mileage reimbursement.
