Position Summary
Buyer 1 is an entry level position responsible for accurate and timely management of Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) items, some Bill of Material (BOM) items and some raw BOM items. Position will be assigned commodities and items and be responsible for managing the stock and suppliers for Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI), visual replenishment at point of use locations, ad hoc requests for special items and Material Requirements Planning (MRP) Purchase Orders (PO). The standard is to never have a stock out, and manage with the right sized inventory level at the lowest cost available. You will work with your suppliers and internal customers to ensure all standards are met. Supplier and commodity assignments for the Buyer 1 position will increase in size, complexity and responsibility based upon the experience level of the employee.
Required Outcomes
- Execute cost out reductions per annual department goals.
- Achieve >95% On Time Delivery (OTD) for all assigned suppliers.
- ZERO production down time for material shortages related to assigned commodities or suppliers.
What makes you great for this role
- Minimum of 0-3 years of related experience in Purchasing or other manufacturing role or equivalent education.
- Experience understanding specifications and drawings preferred.
- Experience with Infor preferred.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain or another business-related field or equivalent preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills, able to develop and manage relationships, and have an aptitude for problem solving.
- Organized with a high level of attention to detail.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Setup and manage VMI
- Order from the best supply available ad hoc MRO purchases
- Processing and releasing POs consistently on time for assigned BOM items
- Ability to understand all required information on a PO such as a supplier quote, shipment options, and line items delivery needs.
- Participate and in some cases lead cost out exercises
- Preventing stock-outs by:
- Minimizing long delays in the supplier setup and quote process
- Reviewing on hand stock against upcoming demand to ensure adequate material is available
- Anticipating future needs based on history and upcoming demand
- Being a useful resource for the sales team, assisting with quotes by providing:
- Names of available suppliers
- MOQs and lead times for each
- Pricing and volume discounts if available
- Assisting other employees with typical questions about item locations, lead times, order status, etc.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
