Description


The Senior Director of Finance plays a key leadership role at Christianity Today (CT) by creating and overseeing efficient processes for financial management, directing the Finance team, and working closely with senior leaders to monitor financial trends. As part of this role, you will join annual board meetings, and work closely with the Finance Committee chair and Chief Operating Officer (COO) to address the ongoing financial needs of the ministry. 


The ideal candidate has at least five years of executive finance experience, preferably at a non-profit organization with annual revenues greater than $10M, and strong written and communication skills. 


Job Functions and Responsibilities


1. Overseeing CT’s Finance & Accounting department, with the goal of creating efficient and people-friendly processes for finance and accounting.

  • Overseeing cash management, Investment portfolios, grant management, general and health Insurance processes alongside Human Resources, ensuring stability for the organization.
  • Preparing monthly financial summaries and budget reports to the board and CT leadership with a focus on accuracy and clear communication around discrepancies. 
  • Leading the annual budgeting process and implementing processes for regular re-forecasting, as needed. This also includes helping think through the financial impact of grant proposals and establishing processes for the accounting of restricted/nonrestricted giving.
  • Developing processes and technologies to streamline payroll, internal communications, and other internal accounting practices.
  • Developing processes for vendor payments, relationships with auditors, and other financial partners.
  • Working with publishing teams to project revenue trends, provide financial insights, and contribute to overall strategy as needed.
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.

2. Creating and evaluating annual budgets for all operations, ensuring each activity/campaign is accurately represented, creating systems for internal accountability, and presenting topline budgets for approval. 


3. Meeting regularly with the senior leadership team and representing CT’s financial trends to the board of directors, key internal stakeholders, independent auditors, and foundation partners as needed.


Requirements


The ideal candidate is a systems thinker who is passionate about continuous improvement for themselves, their team, and the business. They will have strong experience as a financial controller and leading a finance team and can easily translate financial trends and data to non-finance leaders and stakeholders across the organization. The ideal candidate will also excel in strategic resource allocation, building collaborative, high-performing teams, ensuring operational alignment, and redefining what it means to deliver excellence.

  • Bachelor’s degree and CPA required; MBA preferred
  • 5 years of executive finance experience required 
  • 10 years of finance, expense management, or accounting experience, preferably in non-profit organization
  • 10 years of people management 
  • Strong knowledge of accounting software (Sage Intacct) and data analysis preferred
  • Effective communication skills, especially the ability to break down complex challenges and ideas to make them easily understood, measured, and executed
  • Some experience in publishing and/or membership-driven business models preferred

Exact compensation may vary based on experience, skills, and location.

Salary : $115,000 - $120,000
