Summary
Busy church office looking for a part-time Financial Secretary. The Financial Secretary is responsible for the bookkeeping and accounting procedures. The position requires a working knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping and accounting procedures including general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, and collection and deposit of receipts.
Primary Roles and Responsibilities:
Accounting
- Ensure the accurate and prompt completion of bookkeeping and accounting procedures to include payroll, accounts payable, collection and deposit of receipts, investments, special gifts, and memorial funds.
- Maintain the general ledger, reconcile all church bank and investment accounts, pledge records, financial statements, statistics, and all other designated accounts.
- Prepare payroll and payroll tax reports, quarterly and year-end contribution statements, working documents for the Annual Fund Campaign, and budget status reports for the Rector and Vestry.
- Ensure the reordering, preparation and mailing of offering envelopes.
General Office
- Answer the telephones and assist with general customer service
- Provide professional and courteous service to all parishioners, guests, and staff.
- Maintain confidentiality with all Parish matters.
Necessary Skill Sets and Requirements
- Superb customer service, administrative, and verbal and written communication skills
- 3 years of experience in double-entry bookkeeping
- Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
- Very self-motivated and goal-oriented
- Ability to multi-task
- Capability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented office environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Ability to learn new software, including Realm and ACS Financials
- Ability to successfully complete a background check
- Ability to complete a credit check
Formal Education/Training
- High school diploma/GED
- Associate degree in accounting preferred or strong professional background of 2-3 years bookkeeping experience
Normal Working Hours
· This is a part-time position in an office, Monday through Friday.
