What are the responsibilities and job description for the City Attorney position at City of Caldwell?
The City of Caldwell is seeking a highly qualified and experienced City Attorney to provide expert legal counsel, services, and strategic advice to the Mayor, City Council, Appointed Officials, city departments, various boards, and commissions on a myriad of issues. The City Attorney will oversee all legal matters affecting the City, represent the City in legal proceedings, and provide proactive legal solutions to minimize risk and protect the City's interest. As an Appointed Official under general direction from the Mayor and City Council, work is performed within policies and administrative regulations with wide latitude for exercise of independent judgment.
Education, Training, and/or Experience Required:
- Must have a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
- Member of the Idaho State Bar or a state bar with reciprocity in Idaho and currently licensed to practice law in the State of Idaho.
- Seven years experience in the practice of civil law, civil litigation defense, and five years experience managing both professional and support staff positions.
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug test, credit check, and background check.
If claiming Veteran's Preference, you must submit a DD214, Certificate of Release from Active Duty, which shows dates of service and discharge under honorable conditions. If currently on active duty, you must submit a certification of expected discharge or release from active-duty service under honorable conditions not later than 120 days after the date the certification is submitted. Veteran's preference must be verified prior to appointment. Without this documentation, you will not receive Veteran's Preference, and your application will be evaluated based on the material(s) submitted.
