Job Summary:
Employees in this class are under general supervision. A variety of single to relatively complex electrical engineering tasks are performed by employees in this class.
Examples of work performed: primarily working in the field designing and/or assisting in designing, planning and estimating costs for the construction of electric distribution lines and related facilities; develops work orders and makes field surveys; prepares diagrams, noting materials to be used and method to be employed and costs for new line extension and maintenance; updates maps reflecting new construction, services, transformers and new subdivisions; prepares engineering drawings; assists in performing engineering computations; assists in preparing bid specifications for materials and equipment; assists in developing new construction techniques; keeps records and makes reports; locates and marks underground electrical facilities; performs related work as required.
Required Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of electrical engineering
Knowledge of the design, construction and operating procedures for the system
Knowledge of the use of tools and equipment used in electrical engineering work
Knowledge of applicable codes and clearances
Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
Ability to analyze engineering problems and recommend solutions
Ability to prepare work order diagrams and job cost estimates
Ability to administer emergency first aid and CPR
Ability to work a flexible schedule due to call outs and system emergencies
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and co-workers
Qualifications:
High School education or equivalent, considerable experience in electrical distribution field and a drivers license are required. Degree in electrical engineering with some experience in electrical distribution field preferred.
Essential Functions:
Work involves visual inspections in the field and operating drafting, measuring and cable locating instruments. May be exposed to dirt and noise and all weather extremes when working in the field and during emergencies. Subject to call out. Must have effective oral and written communication skills.
