JOB SUMMARY:
This position performs clerical and customer service duties related to the daily operation of the Municipal Court. Ensure the general public is provided with prompt and accurate information pertaining to the service provided by the court by furnishing facts and directing inquiries to the appropriate personnel for additional information and service. The duties also require answering the telephone, attending meetings/conferences, performing data entry, and other duties as assigned. The Clerk of Court reports directly to the Finance Director.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Receives incoming mail and forwards correspondence to the Judge.
- Assist with maintaining the Municipal Court calendar by scheduling or rescheduling court dates and preparing a docket or calendar of cases to be called.
- Notifies defendants, witnesses, and attorneys of court dates and provides routine court-related information to the public.
- Reconciles all court fines and all payments received.
- Maintains, files, and updates court files, including case files and citations.
- Issues contempt of court letters and generates warrants as authorized by the Judge.
- Answers inquiries from the general public, attorneys, other law enforcement agencies, and Courts regarding Municipal Court cases.
- Examines legal documents submitted to the court for adherence to the law or court procedures, prepares case folders, and posts, files, or routes documents.
- Explains procedures or forms to parties in the case.
- Secures information for judges and contacts witnesses, attorneys, and litigants to obtain data for court and instructs parties when to appear in court.
- Records case disposition, court orders, and arrangements for payment of court fees.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years of experience or service.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to accept, receive, and collect payments.
- Ability to use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
- Ability to use computers for data entry.
- Ability to use computers for word processing and accounting purposes.
- Ability to use highly technical computer applications, such as GIS or CAD.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $24.48 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
