Position Overview
The City of Henderson announces an examination to create a consideration for hire list and to fill four (4) part-time vacancies for the classification of Security Officer in the Police Department. The consideration for hire list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to one (1) year.
Under general supervision, ensures a safe and secure environment for City of Henderson employees and visitors; protects City of Henderson property; and performs related duties as assigned.
- This is a part-time, non-PERS eligible position.
- This position does not qualify for employer-paid benefits, paid time off, wage increases, or union representation
- This position requires enrollment in the City's Alternate Retirement Systems (ARS)
- May be required to work a flexible work schedule, outside of normal business hours, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or extended hours
- Work schedule will consist of an average of 19 hours/week (988 hours/year.) Hours per week may increase or decrease based on Department need
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
- Candidates who have retired in the PERS system can work up to 750 hours per year (due to the earnings limitation for retired employees returning to employment with a Nevada public employer in a non-eligible position)
- Candidates who have not retired in PERS can work up to 988 hours per year
PERSONAL HISTORY QUESTIONNAIRE (PHQ):
The final step in the selection process is the police background investigation. If you are among the group of candidates moving forward to the final steps, you will be required to go through a thorough police background process and complete and submit a Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ). Please note: the background process does not influence the selection process.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from high school, or the equivalent
- Three (3) years of professional security, law enforcement, or military police experience which included extensive contact with the public
- Possess and maintain a valid Nevada or "border state" driver's license, as defined by NRS 483
- Possess certification in CPR, basic first aid, and Automated External Defibrillator within 3 months of appointment
- Must pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check, and a wants/warrants check.
- Must complete Security Awareness and National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/Nevada Criminal Justice Information System (NCJIS) certification within six months of hire/transfer and be recertified every two years. Must maintain certifications in NCIC/NCJIS as a condition of continued employment

Selection Process
