BASIC FUNCTION

Under general supervision of the Building Commissioner, this position is responsible for performing investigative work enforcing City codes and regulations.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. *Conduct detailed inspections of housing units and properties to identify code violations.
  2. *Prepare written specifications detailing work to be completed to bring units to code.
  3. *Research client ownership.
  4. *Communicate with clients about violations and the enforcement process and makes recommendations for corrective actions.
  5. *Conduct regular inspections of work in progress and completed projects.
  6. *Function as a liaison between the City's Subrecipients, homeowners/residents and landlords.
  7. *Maintain detailed records and set up files of violations and notices and maintains photo documentation.
  8. *Work closely with City Departments, including but not limited to: Building Commissioner, Planning and Zoning, Animal Control, and Storm Water in enforcing local and State codes.
  9. *Process and send out bills and places liens on property for enforcing City codes as necessary.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

  5. Willingness to take on additional tasks as assigned.
  6. Display excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  7. Maintain initiative to preserve the flow of work.
  8. Work under stress and with commitment to deadlines.
  9. Sustain interpersonal relationships which encourage openness, candor and trust, both internally and with the general public.
  10. Complete projects and/or reports in accurate and timely manner.
  11. Maintain City information in a confidential manner.

  1. Ability to work as a team member.

  4. Work independently and to be accurate, efficient and organized.
  5. Manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  6. Work under pressure with time constraints in a changing environment.
  7. Stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl occasionally.
  8. Work may require some reaching over head, kneeling, climbing ladders, and frequent bending and walking on uneven surfaces.
  9. Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  10. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
