The City of O'Fallon, MO is looking to hire a Construction Inspector in our Engineering Department. Our Construction Inspectors earn competitive salaries from $56,700.80.40-$85,051.20. A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR
As part of our Engineering Department, you will be responsible for inspecting construction projects to ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards. Generally, your schedule will be daytime hours Monday through Friday.
Other duties and responsibilities include:
- Reviewing residential and commercial construction plans and specifications for compliance, accuracy and completeness.
- Making field decisions on construction projects that relate to construction practices, safety and quality of work.
- Communicating and coordinating with contractors, project managers, other departments, outside agencies and the public on construction projects.
- Reviewing contractor invoices, shop drawings, test reports and other project-related submittals.
- Inspecting residential, commercial and capital improvement projects which includes elements related to water distribution systems, sanitary sewer collection systems, storm sewers, earthwork, traffic control, erosion/siltation control, and roadway construction.
- Inspecting utility excavation, lot final and driveway permits.
- Verifying work is completed in accordance with escrow agreements.
- Maintaining records of inspections including measurements of quantities and other documentation, including that association with federally funded projects.
- Responding to questions and concerns from the public.
- Maintaining assigned vehicles and equipment.
- Assisting with snow removal seasonally.
We're looking for someone who is knowledgeable in the principles and practices associated with public works operations, including plan review, construction inspection and stormwater operations. This person should be someone who can be relied upon to serve as a resource for other city departments, the general public and external agencies, such as construction contractors.

Requirements include:
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Missouri.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain the appropriate state certification for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- The ability to withstand weather conditions such as heat, cold, rain, snow, etc.
