What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fire Inspector position at City of Seguin?
- Conducts fire inspections and apply codes and ordinances.
- Conduct investigations of fire related incidents. Performs documentation of conditions as appropriate, performs follow-ups of assigned incidents as necessary and coordinates with other agencies.
- Prepare reports on fire incident responses, arson investigations, inspection and permit activities, and other activities carried out in the division.
- Assists in the review of building and engineering plans for fire code compliance and performs field inspections to ensure installation compliance.
- Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints.
- May be required to attend development meetings representing the Fire Department.
- Performs other related duties consistent with the activities of the Fire Marshal’s Office or other duties as assigned.
- Abides by fire department goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and priorities for assigned programs.
- Responds to alarms and assists in the suppression of fires, including rescue, entry, ventilating, and salvage work as needed.
- Drives fire trucks, ambulance or other emergency vehicle to emergency scenes; responsible for safe operation of such at all times.
- Participates in continuing education training and instruction by department.
- Participates in the department’s wellness program.
- Must be able to maintain flexible hours to meet job needs, including occasional evening or weekend work. Position works in the field with minimal supervision and requires a self-starter with excellent problem solving skills.
- Perform other duties as needed or assigned.
- Operational characteristics, services, and activities of an emergency service program including fire suppression, fire prevention, emergency medical services, disaster preparedness, hazardous materials response, and associated programs, services, and operations.
- Fire science theory, principles, and practices and their application to a wide variety of emergency service operations including fire suppression, fire prevention, fire investigation, emergency medical treatment and response, emergency medical protocols, apparatus preventative maintenance, facilities maintenance, public education, hazardous materials response, special operations, and other areas of response or assigned duties.
- Fire inspection principles and practices, including but not limited to International Fire Code and applicable NFPA codes referenced by IFC.
- Fire investigation practices, procedures and practices, including but not limited to NFPA 921, 1033 and 1321. As well as considerable knowledge of relevant laws, ordinances, rules and regulations is preferred.
- Fire prevention and public education practices and techniques.
- Department emergency medical protocols and their applications.
- Problem solving techniques and methodology.
- Express oneself clearly and concisely in both oral and written communication and establish and maintain effective working relationships among personnel.
- Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals.
- High school education or equivalent.
- Prior experience in fire inspections, fire investigations or firefighting.
- Texas Commission on Fire Protection - Basic Fire Fighter certification
- Texas Department of State Health Services - Emergency Medical Technician – Basic.
- Texas Commission on Fire Protection - Basic Fire Inspector
- Texas Commission on Fire Protection - Basic Fire Investigator within six months of employment.
- Possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License - Class B Exempt.
- Texas Commission on Fire Protection - Basic Arson Investigator certification from the
