Maintains fleet vehicle inventory and preventive maintenance records, and performs preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment. Oversees the maintenance of tools, supplies and equipment.

Position Specific Summary
The Tire and Lube Technician at the City of Tucson’s Environmental and General Services Department performs preventative maintenance on city vehicles and equipment, including oil, lube, and filter changes, fluid level checks, and tire repairs or replacements. This position maintains records of vehicle inventory and maintenance performed, as well as maintenance and organization of assigned tools, supplies, and equipment.
This position reports to the Fleet Services Supervisor. This position does not supervise.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspects vehicles and equipment to identify wear and mechanical issues. Performs preventative maintenance including oil changes, fluid and filter replacements, tire rotations, and emission systems checks to reduce damage to vehicles or future safety issues. Ensures proper disposal and clean up of oils and fluids in compliance with environmental regulations.
- Repairs and replaces vehicle parts and equipment including tires, headlights and batteries to ensure vehicle safety and optimal performance. Responds to emergency service calls in the field, requiring work in hazardous environments, including traffic.
- Maintains vehicle maintenance records, ensuring all vehicles and work performed are updated and documented in asset management system (AMS). Collaborates with auto shops and other departments to ensure vehicles are maintained and follow up work is scheduled. Stocks vehicles with necessary supplies and ensures vehicle regulations and requirements are met.
- Tracks inventory levels of supplies, parts, and tools needed to perform services. Organizes and stocks various supplies including oil, fluids, lights and cleaning supplies. Assists with distributing supplies such as absorbents, shovels, and brooms to substations.
- Attends City of Tucson safety, department and unit meetings, and other required training related to the safe use of tools and equipment. Optimizes productivity by keeping workspaces clean and organized and inspecting the condition of tool inventory.
- Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
Working Conditions
Work schedule may include early mornings, late evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and on-call shifts. Often works under the following conditions: exposure to extreme physical, ergonomic, or hazardous environment, which includes but not limited to dirt, grime, chemical, loud noise and unfavorable odors.

Work Experience: One (1) years of directly related experience

Full Hourly Range: $16.50 - 28.46 USD
