EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Plans, directs and provides recreation and educational programs.Assists in training recreation employees, fulltime and seasonal.Plans work schedules, and assigns and supervises the work of recreation employeesEnsures that rules are enforced, and that equipment is safe and usable.Explains program policies and objectives for area residents.Coordinates community outreach efforts to identify needs for activities and programs.Advises and assists civic clubs, churches, private agencies and schools on recreational projects.Promotes the development and extension of special recreational services among commercial, industrial, and other organizations.Determines cost of programs and maintains budgetary responsibility of programs. Collaborates with other department staff in generating revenue and donations to support programs.Confers with other agencies and works toward effective coordination of recreational services.May organize and supervise music and/or arts and crafts activities, plus a wide variety of athletic events.May manage City-wide aquatics activities and programs.Assists in identifying outcomes for measuring program effectiveness and justification.If certified in Therapeutic Recreation, assesses individuals with disabilities and creates or modifies programs to provide appropriate recreation experiences.Completion of work assignments may require the operation of a vehicle.These examples are not intended to be all-inclusive. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Required Experience and TrainingFive years of experience in planning, delivering, and managing recreational programs OR Bachelor's degree with emphasis in education and/or recreation and one year of experience in planning, delivering, and managing recreational programsTwo years of experience leading and supervising staff.One year of experience organizing and coordinating events, programs, or community activities.Two years of experience maintaining facilities, grounds, and equipment maintenance.A valid driver’s license.Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship.Applicants must attach a copy of their transcript to their application to be considered. Transcripts should confirm that the degree meets the specific educational requirements for the position. Applications submitted without an attached transcript will not be processed. Preferred Experience and Training Certification or 1 year of experience in Therapeutic Recreation, involving adaptive or inclusive programming.Offers of employment are contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical which includes drug screening.
