CKS Packaging, Inc., a leader and growing manufacturer of rigid plastic containers needs a Safety Coordinator for our plant located in Hanahan, SC. We are looking for candidates with prior experience as a Safety Coordinator.

Plant Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator

Job Description & Requirements

The Plant Environmental Health & Safety Coordinator (EHS Coord.) is responsible for the implementation and management of an effective environmental safety and health program for their respective CKS plant. The Safety Coordinator reports to the site plant manager with a dotted line to the Corporate Director of EHS and provides leadership supporting the company’s EHS initiatives, model safety as a top priority of the organization, and lead/coach the site management.

Primary Responsibilities at their Plants

  • Lead and assist with deployment of the behavior modification safety objective to achieve zero injuries consistent with the CKS do no harm philosophy taking bot a consultative (learn, assess and advise about needs) and active lead (implementation approach with leaders.
  • Assist with deployment of all environmental, safety programs, policies and procedures at the plant level;
  • Manage all injury/illness and environmental related cases by proper documentation and case management.
  • Primary transport and management for injury of employees to medical facility for non-urgent incident and/or follow up appointments.
  • Track/monitor KPI for the plants under their purview,
  • Comply with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements;
  • Supports plant management while building a positive safety culture focus on influencing behaviors;
  • Lead and coach site management and all employees on interpretation and administration of EHS&S policies and procedures;
  • Supports the plant management and operations by assisting with project management, training, and clarifying requirements, and coaching
  • Maintain all safety records and manage non-compliance at plant level;
  • Lead and manage all near misses, hazard/accident investigations and reports;
  • Lead disability management and consult regional/corporate EHS to manage local Return To Work (RTW) programs;
  • Lead and coach members of the safety committee for his/her plants;

Safety Regulations Other Responsibilities

  • Deliver meaningful safety training programs for the plant – ensure understanding of requirements
  • Used Oil materials management
  • Regulatory compliance with Federal, State, Local agencies
  • Champion and promote a strong safety and compliance culture implementing programs to ensure co-worker safety and company regulatory compliance
  • Consult and advise plant operations on initiatives, programs, opportunities and problem resolution, as well as maintain regular two-way dialogue to continually enhance effectiveness

Team Safety Strategy & Performance

  • Reduce Life-Changing Events
  • Foster/support the Brother’s Keeper safety culture
  • Ensure accurate and timely internal and external reporting on safety metrics for their plants
  • Work with plant management to ensure safety incidents & enforcement
  • Primary interface to plant safety inspections and inquiries from government agencies (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DOT), provide reports to management and EHS Regional/Corporate as well as input on the negotiation of any settlement agreements
  • Work with Corporate EHS and management to disseminate safety and health messages to both internal and external customers.

Education and Experience

  • Associate degree or equivalent in Safety Management, or related field preferred
  • Bilingual English/Spanish and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) a plus
  • A minimum of 3 years of safety experience within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of government regulations in environmental health and safety
  • Proven ability to achieve regulatory compliance in a manufacturing environment
  • Proven ability to influence people that have no direct report to them.
  • Candidate must be able to embrace and lead change in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, including the ability to effectively present and discuss technical information and respond to questions from leaders
