Student Financial Assistance Counselor - Bilingual (Spanish) – Part-Time Onsite
The College of Westchester, an Associate degree- and Baccalaureate degree-granting college, is seeking a part-time Student Financial Assistance Counselor to work in our New Student Financial Assistance department. The Student Financial Assistance Counselor provides advisement, support and assistance to prospective students and parents to help them determine how to make college affordable. The Student Financial Assistance Counselor will meet with students to assist them in the completion of Federal, New York State financial aid applications and determine eligibility for grants, scholarships, Federal Loans and other award programs. The Student Financial Assistance Counselor will deliver excellent service and support to students, maintain compliance with all regulations and assist the Assistant Director in the day-to-day departmental activities.
The work schedule for this part-time position will include 3 evenings (5:00 – 8:00 pm) between Mon-Thursday and Saturday’s schedule is 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, however will accept comparable experience.
- College financial aid experience is preferred but not required.
- Excellent customer service skills and student-first mindset.
- Good math aptitude and technology skills.
- Bilingual – Spanish required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Meet with prospective and new students to counsel them on financial assistance process, discuss options to finance their education, assist in completing applications, determine financial need and present financial aid award estimates.
- Counsel prospective and new students regarding their rights and responsibilities with respect to financial assistance and student loans.
- Ensure all required documents and assigned deadlines are met including but not limited to timely submission of new student financial assistance packages, verification documents, ETAs, folder submission and departmental reports to supervisor.
- Maintain a high level of communication with Financial Assistance and Admissions department team members on the status of applicants/students and other relevant information.
- Assist in organizing and participating in special events such as open houses, financial aid workshops (both on- and off-campus), early registration and orientation for new students, as well as finalizing any outstanding financial assistance matters for new students during the add/drop period.
- Assist Assistant Director and others with required reporting.
- Assist Assistant Director in day-to-day activities and coordination of student appointments.
- Be knowledgeable and up to date on all federal, state and accreditation regulations regarding financial assistance.
- Follow New Student Financial Assistance policies and procedures.
Hourly Range for this part-time position: $25.00 – $30.00 per hour
Benefits Offered for Part-time employees may include: 401(k) retirement plan (must meet annual hours for eligibility), and NYS sick leave (up to 56 hours annually)
