This position is part of a multidisciplinary team that aids individuals in the outpatient behavioral health setting who need reduced cost or no cost medications. The PAP specialist will guide the individual in completing PAP applications for submission to the pharmaceutical company for each of their prescribed medications which have a qualifying program. All applications require extensive follow up to track applications through the process to final decision by the manufacturer. The PAP specialist will have to be comfortable with utilizing multiple software systems to track applications, reorder medications and establish re-enrollment applications. A key component to success in this role is superior task organization and an ability to effectively schedule appointments as needed to complete the application process. Chart audit experience, insurance verification experience and a working knowledge of antipsychotics, antidepressants, psychotropic agents, mood stabilizers and anticonvulsants are very important for analyzing PAP application set up options. PAP specialist will also support the medication distribution center activities to include receiving, inventory management and distributing medications. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- 3 years’ experience working in a medical office, agency, or hospital preferred.
- 2 years’ experience in community mental health or related field preferred.
- Working Knowledge of Behavioral Health Medications (antipsychotics, antidepressants, psychotropic agents, and mood stabilizers, anticonvulsants).
- Working knowledge of the Patient Assistance Programs desired.
- Assisting individuals in filling out applications for prescription assistance.
- Reaching out to individuals via phone and mail to coordinate application process.
- Analyzing applications for completeness and obtaining records to assist completion.
- Scheduling appointments as needed to complete the application process.
- Following up with pharmaceutical companies to track application progress.
- Receiving and tracking medications within the PAP program.
- Reordering PAP medications
- Verifying insurance.
- Backup to medication distribution activities including receiving and distributing medications.
- Superior Organizational Skills,
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred.
- Ability to use multiple software programs with limited supervision.
