The Department of Workplace Standards, Division of Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) Compliance, seeks an OSH Safety Consultant in the Safety Training and Consultation Branch. This position will provide technical assistance to employers in recognizing and controlling potential safety hazards in the workplace; conduct voluntary consultative surveys to identify potential safety hazards to assure compliance with occupational safety and health laws and regulations; advise employers as to the nature of safety hazards and makes recommendations for effective abatement; and develop workplace safety training programs for employees and employer.
This position will have access to confidential and sensitive information. The successful candidate will be required to ensure the safeguarding and security of all confidential and sensitive information and will be required to complete trainings, sign acknowledgments, follow all policies, and adhere to all statutes and requirements pertaining to the safeguarding and security of confidential and sensitive information while employed and after employment ends.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree OR an associate's degree in occupational safety and health.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: One year of professional experience in occupational safety and health, safety training, or a related field.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Graduate study in occupational safety and health, occupational safety and health internship, safety, or health training, or a related field will substitute for the required experience on a year for year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in applying OSHA regulations to the workplace will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required education on a year for year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Work is generally performed in an office setting when preparing reports or evaluating inspections. Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To, The Following
- Independently conducts consultative surveys to detect safety and health hazards in the workplace per employers' requests; identifies OSH Standards violations for public and private employers. Makes recommendations to ensure the timely abatement of hazards; explains acceptable compliance alternatives.
- Researches appropriate safety regulations to determine the applicable standards, writes detailed and technical foreman reports outlining the survey results, and makes recommendations to the employer. Advises employers as to the nature of safety hazards.
- Analyzes accident rates and evaluate corrective/preventative safety and health measures.
- Reviews technical materials and literature to keep current with standards, requirements and technology. Reviews the division's technical publications for accuracy and researches federal standards. Assists in training new employees and attends technical training sessions, division meetings and seminars.
- Participates in presenting technical training programs regarding occupational safety and health regulations for employees and employers to enhance workplace safety. Develops and assembles training materials for specific safety issues.
