What are the responsibilities and job description for the Commercial Estimator position at Confidental Company?
The Commercial General Contractor Estimator will be responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for a variety of commercial construction projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in general contracting, as well as expertise in analyzing project blueprints, specifications, and scope of work. In this role, you will collaborate with project managers, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure accurate, competitive estimates are submitted for bids while keeping in mind project budget constraints and timeline requirements.
- **Project Estimation:**
Prepare detailed cost estimates for commercial construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, overhead, and other associated costs.
- **Blueprint & Specification Analysis:**
Review and interpret blueprints, project specifications, and scope of work to determine accurate quantities, materials, labor, and other necessary project resources.
- **Bid Proposal Preparation:**
Develop comprehensive and competitive bid proposals for commercial projects, ensuring all aspects of the project are accounted for and that estimates align with client requirements and expectations.
- **Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination:**
Collaborate with vendors and subcontractors to obtain material pricing, labor costs, and subcontractor quotes. Negotiate favorable terms and secure competitive pricing.
- **Risk Analysis:**
Identify potential risks during the estimating process, such as material price fluctuations or scope changes, and propose solutions to mitigate those risks.
- **Client & Stakeholder Communication:**
Maintain effective communication with clients, project managers, architects, and engineers to ensure alignment on project scope, pricing, and timelines. Respond to client inquiries and provide clarity on project estimates and bids.
- **Change Order Management:**
Manage change orders during the construction process, ensuring that any adjustments in project scope, materials, or timelines are properly accounted for and that the estimate is revised accordingly.
- **Technical Skills:**
- Expertise in **construction estimating** for commercial projects, including knowledge of labor, materials, and equipment costs.
- Proficiency in **estimating software** (e.g., ProEst, Procore, Buildertrend, or similar).
- Strong understanding of **blueprint reading** and the ability to interpret project specifications and scopes of work.
- Familiarity with **project management software** and cost control tools.
- **Strong Analytical & Organizational Skills:**
Ability to assess project costs accurately, identify inefficiencies, and recommend solutions to maintain profitability.
- **Certifications (Preferred):**
- **OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification** (preferred).
- **LEED Certification** (a plus).
- **Certified Professional Estimator (CPE)** (a plus).
Pay based upon experience.
