JOB DESCRIPTION Community Navigator
Non-union
Reports to: Public Defender
Location: Office of the Public Defender
Hours: 8:30-4:00 M-F
Grant funded term: January 1, 2025-December 31, 2026
The Community Navigator will be responsible for developing and implementing programs designed to help individuals who have criminal charges and are indigent integrate into and succeed in society.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and educate those with criminal charges on community programs and services, including job training, education, substance abuse treatment, mental health services, housing services, and other support services as needed
- Conduct intake assessments of individuals to determine their needs and develop individualized reentry plans
- Work closely with community partners to provide a seamless network of support services to individuals
- Provide general support services to help individuals navigate community and justice system challenges
- Develop and maintain relationships with community partners to create access to job opportunities for individuals
- Monitor and track progress of individuals in the program and adjust services as needed to ensure success
- Maintain accurate and complete records of all program activities and participants
- Stay up-to-date on best practices and emerging trends in reentry programs and community services
- Working closely with the Somerset County Reentry Specialist to assess the needs of each individual and provide a range of support services to help them succeed
- Maintain confidentiality at all times

Qualifications:
o Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in criminal justice, social work, psychology, or a related field
o Knowledge of the criminal justice system and the challenges faced by individuals reentering society
o Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
o Ability to work independently and as part of a team
o Strong organizational and time-management skills
o Experience working with diverse populations
o Knowledge of community resources and the ability to establish partnerships with community organizations and employers
o Desire and willingness to work with justice-impacted individuals charged with various crimes
o Must be able to pass a drug screen and background check
Job Type: Full-time
