This is a paid internship at our South San Francisco headquarters. The program is for approximately 12 weeks beginning in late May/early June.
The cardiomyopathy section within Cytokinetics’ Cardiovascular Research Area is undertaking several high priority projects to support the growing evidence base for the use of aficamten in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). This exciting opportunity will involve trial design, implementation, and analysis, encompassing clinical, biometric, regulatory, and operational functions. The intern will facilitate research and operational roles in HCM trials, while gaining knowledge and experience in clinical development that can serve as the foundation for a career in clinical research and biotechnology. Under the guidance of a clinical research medical doctor (cardiologist), the intern will learn fundamentals of clinical trial design, strategy, and will learn or improve the following skills:
- Understanding of the design and conduct of clinical and pre-clinical studies.
- Verification of research data.
- Working in cross-functional teams across biotechnology.
- Follow established guidelines in the collection of clinical data and/or administration of clinical studies
- Support aggregation and analysis of study data.
- Attend and contribute to team meetings, including working to set and achieve project timelines and deliverables.
- Cross-functional teamwork.
- Developing and delivering professional presentations.
Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program as a junior- or senior-level student
- Currently seeking degree in basic sciences, pre-med, public health, epidemiology, and/or social and behavioral sciences
- Able to use Microsoft Office programs
- Good communication skills and an interest in learning
- Ability to work in a team
- Good numeracy, literacy, and organizational skills
