What are the responsibilities and job description for the Irrigation Technician position at Daily rain?
Summary of Responsibilities:
Irrigation Technicians are key members of the Field Services and Installation Teams. Under the direct supervision of the Service Manager or Installation Foreman, the Irrigation Technician installs, maintains, and repairs residential and commercial underground sprinkler systems. Depending on the level of experience and training, each technician will have the following responsibilities and additional duties and responsibilities may be added:
Installation:
- Efficient set up and parts stocking and staging for job while lead tech flags overall design
- Hand dig holes to proper depth according to sprinkler head type/size as specified in site layout design
- Ability to use a pipe puller and trenching machine
- Install poly and pvc fittings to piping in preparation for head placement
- Dry set adjustment and bury sprinkler heads
- Connecting valve manifold to main water source (city/well/pond or lake)
- Assemble and place valve manifolds according to site plan and Foreman direction
- Connect zone wires to corresponding valves
- Bury valve manifolds to proper height
- Adjust all manufacturer types of sprinkler heads
- Adjust and set controllers
- Mount controllers and connect wires
- Install all manufacturer types of rain sensor devices
- Effective clean up and finalize landscape and work area once system fully installed
- Overview of system functionality, maintenance, and troubleshooting with the client
Field Service:
- Execute timely servicing of irrigation customers within a zoned territory
- Seasonal start-up of residential and commercial irrigation systems
- Testing systems for proper functioning and effective troubleshooting of systems to determine necessary repairs
- Adjusting and setting of all manufacturer types of sprinkler heads and valve boxes
- Adjust and set controllers and assist customer with understanding of controller use
- Determine parts required to repair or renovate irrigation systems while maintaining accurate inventory and strict cost controls to ensure jobs are performed within the appropriate budget requirements
- Gather and update historical data for each customer account regarding water sources, point of connection, mainline location, services performed and parts installed
- Partner with customers to suggest watering schedules, ways to reduce water usage and costs. Propose solutions during periods of drought or water restrictions, propose system upgrades or repairs to endure highest functioning system and to meet the needs and desires of the customer
- Visits properties to evaluate all revenue generating opportunities and design enhancements
- Deactivate/winterize irrigation systems according to seasonal priorities and pre-established schedules, ensuring effective process to avoid damage and preserve warranty
- Service to basic landscape lighting
Skills Required:

- Ability to follow detailed instructions
- Ability to use landscape hand tools such as shovel, rake, etc.
- Experience working with additional hand tools such as screwdriver, pliers, wire strippers, crimpers, poly cutters, pvc saw, electric drill
- Basic math skills and working knowledge of measurement principles
- Basic knowledge of low voltage electrical wiring
- Familiarity with water source pump systems (city/well/lake or pond) and plumbing
- Customer Service skills and good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to effectively troubleshoot and problem solve independently
