Daybreak is looking for a Case Aide to assist in our mission of providing Miami Valley homeless and vulnerable youth with services that promote safety, stability, and well-being. This position will play a role in achieving our vision of a promising future for all youth.

About Us: Daybreak was established in 1975 in Dayton, Ohio as an emergency shelter for runaway and homeless youth. Today, Daybreak operates the Miami Valley's only 24-hour crisis hotline and emergency youth shelter and has grown to include outreach, prevention, transitional housing, life-skills education, and other follow-up services for runaway, throwaway, and homeless youth.
Position Responsibilities: The Case Aide will provide life skills training, life enrichment activities, group management and other supportive services specific to the needs of LGBTQ clientele and youth participating in David's Place services as well the youth in the residential units. Assist client toward goals and goal development. Inspires and addresses client's engagement in services as effective and efficient as possible and that standards set by the agency, CARF, and funding sources are met or exceeded by performing the assigned duties.
Works to address and provide linkage with participants in need of supportive services. Reports directly to Employment/Engagement Director, for proper evaluation of needs and resources for participants
Provide timely documentation of all paperwork for the client's record per OhioMHAS standards and meets productivity goals as established for the program an individually, according to agency protocols, standards, and expectations. Keep track of individual productivity for supervisory purposes. Ensures clinical services paperwork is completed within 72 hours per agency standards and requirements.
Coordinates with client's team, activities, and life skills training for clients to restore daily functioning skills assisting them with managing their home, money, health, medications, community resources and other selfcare needs, per ITP goals. Training may include cooking, cleaning, laundry, personal hygiene, budgeting, parenting, if applicable, and other daily living activities that may impact the youth's ability to function independently.
In coordination with client's team provide rehabilitation and support restoring social and interpersonal skills, to increase youth ability to maintain a household, enhance personal relationships, establish support networks, increase their community awareness, develop coping strategies, and promote effective functioning in the youth's social environment including home, work, and school. These skills may include: follow daily schedule, housekeeping, community social activities at: (coffee shops, museum, events), exercise, field trips to colleges, education/vocational centers, legal skills, transportation, emergency & safety, housing search skills, knowledge of community resources and time management as needed.
Supports, promotes, engages youth and themselves in a strength base model to inspire, enhance and support positive behaviors utilizing natural and logical consequences when necessary.
Assist in developing groups/individual scheduled of activities to support program and service delivery.
Position Requirements:
HS/GED required, AA or BA in Human Services or related filed preferred. Experience with target population, preferred.
The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, flexible, self-motivated and a good problem-solver. Proficient in Microsoft Office. Must have a good driving record and be able and willing to transport clients.
This position requires timely documentation skills, the ability to multi-task, and willingness to work directly with clients to help them master basic life skills. Must be able to meet the productivity standards set for the position.
It is the policy of Daybreak to ensure that the facility is in compliance with all license requirements and that all employees are fit for duty. Once a conditional offer of employment has been given, Daybreak requires that all prospective employees sign a background check release form and pass pre-employment testing before a start date may be given.
Background Check
Daybreak is required by State of Ohio law to perform a criminal background check, which includes fingerprinting, of eligible applicants. In addition to the fingerprints, Daybreak requires the following additional background checks.
- Federal Exclusion databases including:
- National Sex Offender Registry
- Office Inspector General (OIG)
- Nurse Aide Registry
- SAM
- of Developmental Disabilities (DODD)
- Motor Vehicle Report
Pre-employment Testing
The following pre-employment tests will be conducted at Daybreak's expense. Tests include:
- A tuberculin skin test or chest x-ray (by a physician of Daybreak's choosing)
- A urine drug screening (by a testing facility of Daybreak's choosing)
Should the pre-employment reviews indicate that the prospective employee does not meet the employment requirements, Daybreak has the option of either not hiring the person or postponing employment until the condition prohibiting employment has been removed.
If the background or pre-employment checks contain information that the applicant has committed, been convicted of, or pleaded guilty to any criminal offense, unless the charge was a minor misdemeanor not involving violence or a sexual offense at least 5 years old, or if the applicant refuses to submit fingerprints for a criminal background check, the conditional offer of employment will be withdrawn immediately.
Pursuant to SB 38 (child-serving agency), if it is determined that the applicant has committed one of the disqualifying events listed on the attached Ohio Revised Code Disqualifier sheet may prevent employment at Daybreak.
