Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Fulltime Travel Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) to join our team.
A Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) specializing in substance abuse plays a vital role in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients dealing with substance use disorders (SUDs). This specialization involves a deep understanding of addiction medicine and the complexities of treating patients with substance abuse issues. FNPs in this field provide holistic care, including medical and psychosocial aspects, to support recovery and promote overall well-being.
Key Responsibilities
Assessment and Diagnosis
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to determine the presence and extent of substance use disorders.
- Evaluate patients for co-occurring mental health conditions, such as depression or anxiety, which often accompany substance abuse.
- Utilize screening tools and diagnostic criteria to identify SUDs.
Treatment Planning and Management
- Develop individualized treatment plans that may include medication-assisted treatment (MAT), behavioral therapies, and support services.
- Prescribe and manage medications for detoxification and maintenance, such as buprenorphine, methadone, or naltrexone.
- Monitor patient progress, adjust treatment plans as necessary, and manage withdrawal symptoms.
Collaboration and Coordination
- Work closely with other healthcare providers, including addiction specialists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors, to deliver comprehensive care.
- Coordinate care with community resources, support groups, and rehabilitation programs.
- Advocate for patient access to resources and services that support recovery.
Prevention and Education
- Educate patients about substance abuse prevention, harm reduction strategies, and healthy lifestyle choices.
Documentation and Compliance
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records, documenting treatment plans, progress, and outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards, including informed consent, confidentiality, and patient rights.
Skills and Qualifications
- Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN) license and Nurse Practitioner (NP) certification, with additional certification in addiction medicine if available.
- Skills: Strong clinical skills in addiction treatment, empathy, excellent communication abilities, critical thinking, and an understanding of the psychosocial aspects of substance abuse.
