Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Certified Pharmacy Technician to join our healthcare team. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting pharmacists in delivering high-quality patient care within a hospital or acute care setting. Your expertise in medication administration and patient service will be vital in ensuring safe and effective treatment for our patients.
Duties
- Adheres to all applicable Regulatory standards, policies, rules and regulations as well as other governmental, accrediting regulatory standards inclusive of the FDA.
- Receives written prescription or medication orders. Record or input prescription medication on a patient’s profile or in a computer.
- Checks each patient order for allergy, height and weight information, completeness of order, and clinical appropriateness.
- Record or input prescription medication on a patients profile or in a computer.
- Retrieves, counts, pours, weighs, measures and mixes medications accurately and in a timely manner.
- Selects type/size of prescription container, type or computer generate prescription labels. Affix prescription labels and auxiliary label on medication containers (i.e. vials, boxes, IV bags/bottles, etc.).
- Calls on existing orders for clarification of recording agents name (i.e. nurse, clerk, doctor, etc.).
- Notifies patient’s nurse of any order that cannot be filled within on-half hour of receipt.
- Reports all problems to the Director and resolves them on a timely basis. No justified complaint will be unresolved or recur.
- All orders and computer profiles checked for allergy information. Nursing is called immediately when allergy information not
- Informs pharmacist of any possible drug-drug, drug-food, and etc. interaction to ensure that patients are receiving correct
- All orders checked for completeness. Physician or nurse contacted to correct.
- Document the inspection of all assigned medication areas on a monthly basis.
- Provides for the continuous supply of pharmacy stock and floor stock
- Any and all actual incidents are reported before shift is completed to the Supervisor or to the Nursing Supervisor.
- Orders medications appropriately to assure adequate supply for patient’s use and ensure choose cost effective medications that are cost effective
- Reviews, within the Pharmacy Department, drug expiration dates, removes expired drugs, and stores expired drugs in the designated area, and reorders such drugs (if needed) before the expiration date of the expiring drug.
- Cleans shelves and organizes the pharmacy, laboratory, supplies and medications. Replenishes and rotates stock.
- Procurement and inventory management with control and audit narcotics/stock substance.
- Provides drug information to the Medical Staff, Nursing Staff and patients.
- Provides education for nurses, allied health professionals and pharmacy staff as requested and/or as needed.
- Monitors patients per existing protocol
- Accepts responsibility for a special project as assigned
- Coordinates insurance billing
- Monitors patients per existing protocol
- Assists in gathering information and analyzing it for DUE’s as requested
- Participates in hospital-wide performance improvement activities
- Assists in special projects and specific tasks within assigned time frame.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
