What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paving Inspector position at Development Facilitators Inc. (DFI)?
A Paving Inspector is responsible for providing paving, concrete, striping and landscaping restoration services in Prince George's and Montgomery Counties on WSSC projects. Specific duties will include preliminary inspection and mark up of areas to be restored, preparation and processing of restoration work orders, observation of restoration work in process, final inspection of completed work, and coordination with local authorities to coordinate work. Weekend and evening overtime may also be required part of this position. The Paving Inspector is responsible for ensuring full compliance with WSSC, SHA, County, and local municipality’s specifications. Paving Inspectors are required to interact with our customers on a daily basis and must possess excellent customer service skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Inspection paving, concrete, striping and landscaping restoration
- Prepares restoration work orders for processing
- Observes restoration work in process
- Coordinates restoration work with contractors and local authorities
- Inspects completed work and approve for payment
- Responds to emergencies when deemed necessary
- Complete Daily Inspection Reports, Timesheets and Mileage reports in a timely manner
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
- Provide training to new paving inspectors
- Assist the Restoration Services Coordinators and Contract Managers as needed
- Attend staff meetings as scheduled
- Obtain required certifications and training as prescribed
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Practical knowledge of paving and landscaping restoration
- Knowledge of soil compaction methods and testing
- Knowledge of environmental regulations, including sediment and erosion control
- Knowledge of traffic control methods and requirements
- Ability to interpret construction plans and drawings
- Ability to interpret and understand WSSC, SHA, County and other municipality specifications and standards
- Ability to compute quantities of construction materials installed
- Knowledge or basic mathematics and ability to calculate cost estimates for work orders
- Work outdoors in inclement weather and possess the ability to lift objects that weigh up to 50 lbs.
- Communicates effectively orally and in writing and able to work in a team environment
- Basic knowledge of computer programs, including but not limited to Word, Excel and Office Outlook
- Must fluently communicate in English, both orally and in writing
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCES REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent and three years of experience with paving operations or inspections or three year of progressively responsible experience in maintenance, construction or sub-professional engineering work
- Paving inspections shall have inspected six pavement restoration or new road construction projects in the past two years
- Paving inspectors experience shall include concrete sidewalk, driveway and curb and gutter restoration, new pavement and roadway construction and restoration, and landscaping restoration
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Obtain Erosion and Sediment Control “Yellow Card” within one-year
- Obtain MD SHA flagger certification within one year
- Successfully pass the Commission’s security background check
- If certifications are not obtained within one year of hire the employee will be released
PREFERENCES:
- Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel
- Experience using eBuilder
- Experience as a geotechnician
- ACI or WACEL or NICET certifications
- Erosion and Sediment Control certification
- MDOT Certified Flagger/Traffic Control Inspector
