Job Summary: The Shipping & Receiving Team Lead is responsible for supervising and guiding the daily operations of the shipping and receiving department to ensure timely deliveries and customer satisfaction. Working closely with the Shipping & Receiving Manager, the Team Lead will help prioritize shipments, streamline workflows, and enhance overall efficiency. Additionally, they will serve as a key point of contact and support for Shipping & Receiving Specialists, providing direction and assistance as needed to maintain optimal performance within the department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise daily operations of the Shipping and Receiving Department.
- Provide guidance to Shipping and Receiving Specialists, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and accurately.
- Train new employees and provide guidance and ongoing development as needed.
- Monitor the accuracy of shipments, ensuring proper labeling, packing, and documentation.
- Perform quality control checks on incoming and outgoing goods to verify the condition and specifications.
- Identify inefficiencies in the shipping and receiving process and work with the team to resolve them.
- Follow and adhere to all company and customer shipping instructions, policies, and procedures.
- Collaborate with Production Supervisors to ensure manufacturing jobs are completed on time and prepared for shipment.
- Work closely with other departments to ensure that shipping deadlines are met and operations run smoothly.
- Track outgoing shipments to ensure they are on schedule, properly packaged, correctly labeled, and meet customer expectations for quality.
- Accurately complete all necessary documentation for shipments, ensuring compliance with company and customer requirements.
- Process outgoing shipments using various shipping software (UPS, FedEx, etc.) and customer portals.
- Prepare all outbound pallets for shipment, including finishing, wrapping, and palletizing products to meet shipping standards.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment, ensuring that safety standards are followed at all times.
- Use ERP systems, Microsoft Office software (including email, Word, Excel), and other tools to support daily operations and communication.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of three (3) year experience working in shipping/receiving.
- Valid Driver’s License with a good driving record.
- A DOT Card or ability to pass DOT physical and driving test.
- Proficient in PC and database programs; experience with internal ERP systems, printing labels, word processing, and spreadsheets.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and via email.
- Basic measuring skills and ability to conduct visual quality inspections of incoming materials.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
- Strong ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Familiarity with domestic and international shipping procedures.
- Strong attention to detail in all aspects of work.
- Experience in operating forklifts and electric pallet jacks.
- Strong math aptitude for shipping calculations and inventory management.
- Proficiency with FedEx Ship Manager® and UPS WorldShip® software.
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
