PURPOSE:
We are seeking highly skilled and experienced CNC 2 Axis Setup Lead to oversee machining operations, optimize workflow, and ensure production efficiency. This role requires hands-on expertise in CNC mill setup, programming, and troubleshooting, as well as strong leadership abilities to mentor and guide a team of machinists. Setup of Horizontal and Vertical Milling Machines, daily deployment of labor in Mill department per the production schedule, and training of Milling Department team members.
POSITION EXPECTATIONS AND JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Setup of all 2 Axis CNC Lathes
- Loading programs
- Work holding setup and installation
- Tool Presetting and Teaching
- Tooling and Work Offsets
- Production of 1st piece

Daily Labor Deployment
- Assign operators in department daily work based on Production Schedule
- Production Coordination, collaborate with engineering, quality assurance, and production teams to meet deadlines and maintain workflow efficiency.

Team Leadership, Department Development, and Training
- Assist growth and development of team in Turning
- Train, mentor, and oversee machine operators and machinists, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and production schedules.

Trouble Shooting
- Responsibility for troubleshooting processes and part problems of department
- Minor program edits with assistance from Programming department

Running Production
- Ability to run production parts and machines when demand and time permits

Quality Control
- Work closely with QC inspectors to ensure all parts meet tight tolerances and specifications using precision measuring tools.

Tooling & Fixturing
- Select and install appropriate cutting tools, work-holding fixtures, and ensure correct offsets for precision machining.

Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate setup sheets, tool lists, and process documentation for repeatability and continuous improvement.
CRITICAL COMPETENCIES:

- Self-starter / ability to work independently.
- Ability to independently setup all 2 Axis Turning machines
- Basic understanding of CNC Milling programs such as “G” and “M” codes.
- Ability to select and pre-set tooling for Lathes
- Ability to read Blueprints and measure parts
- Collaborates well with all levels / functions.
- Excellent attendance and disciplinary track record.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High School graduation or equivalent required.
- 3-5 years setting up 2 Axis Lathes with Fanuc controls.
- Blueprint reading
- Experience using basic inspection equipment such as height stand, micrometer, Caliper, Comparator, and dial gauges.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet; however, the incumbent is occasionally required to go to the plant floor near machinery with moving parts and there is loud noise on the plant floor.
