Portland, Maine
Drummond Woodsum is seeking a full-time Real Estate Paralegal to join our firm’s Real Estate Department in our Portland office. The ideal candidate will be familiar with real estate transactions generally and experienced in performing title examinations; preparation of title insurance commitments and policies; drafting deeds, easements, and other real estate transaction-related documents; familiar with title insurance endorsements and closings of real estate transactions.
Responsibilities include:
- Title examination and research, including reviewing status of taxes, liens and encumbrances and comparing legal descriptions in instruments of record with surveys and other information to determine impact on title to real estate
- Preparing reports summarizing title research
- Issuing title insurance commitments and policies, including facility with title insurance endorsements
- Communicating with title insurance companies, including negotiating rates, endorsements, and affirmative coverage
- Evaluating and analyzing title issues and working with attorneys on potential solutions
- Recording of documents and filing of transfer tax declarations, including electronically
- Assisting attorneys with closing of real estate transactions
Skill Requirements:
- Working knowledge of real estate transactions and closings
- Effective analytical and communication skills
- Title examination, analysis and underwriting experience
- Ability to use Microsoft Word and Outlook
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects at once
