About the Position:
The Engineering Manager oversees technical operations, process optimization, and team leadership. Responsibilities include managing engineering projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring efficient production processes. Strong leadership and technical expertise are essential
Leadership and Team Management:
- Lead and manage the Tooling, Engineering, and New Product Introduction (NPI) teams.
- Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Identify training needs and implement development plans to enhance team skills and capabilities.
- Make personnel decisions including hiring, initiation of performance improvement initiatives, and termination recommendations.
- Ensure the wellbeing and productivity of direct reports.
Strategic Planning and Execution:
- Develop and implement strategic initiatives to enhance manufacturing efficiency, product quality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Collaborate with the leadership team to set long-term goals and drive continuous improvement efforts.
- Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of engineering projects, ensuring they are on time and within budget.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams to facilitate project success.
Technical Operations and Process Optimization:
- Provide technical guidance and support to engineering teams in the design, development, and optimization of injection molding processes.
- Implement advanced automation and tooling solutions to improve production capabilities.
- Ensure the maintenance program is robust and effective, minimizing downtime and ensuring the reliability of equipment.
- Implement predictive and preventive maintenance strategies.
- Ensure tooling capabilities meet the demands of current and future production requirements.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for any quality or process issues.
Quality and Compliance:
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and company quality policies.
- Ensure compliance with Quality Management System (QMS) requirements.
- Facilitate a continuous improvement culture and foster a team-oriented quality ownership culture.
- Ensure new product introductions meet quality, delivery, and cost objectives.
- Authorize and approve manufacturing processes and updates to Process Engineering manufacturing documentation.
- Communicate with executive management and customers regarding product and process issues, including design for manufacturing and quality-related concerns.
- Stop processes and shipments due to quality concerns if necessary.
The employee is subject to:
- Normal manufacturing and office environments.
- Working with and around mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Fumes/odors.
Direct Reports:
Sr. Process Engineer, Project Engineer, NPI Manufacturing Engineer, Validation Engineer (Costing / Tooling personnel)
Requirements:Minimum Experience and Education Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 10 years of engineering experience in the plastic injection molding industry.
- 5 years of experience in a process development role.
- 1-3 years of experience working within an ISO 13485 quality system.
Preferred Experience and Education:
- Advanced degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or Business.
- Additional leadership experience within an engineering environment.
- Experience in medical device manufacturing or other regulated industries.
Required Skills:
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
- Expertise in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.
- Advanced knowledge of plastic injection molding processes and related manufacturing techniques.
- Solid understanding of materials and their impact on manufacturability.
- Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
- High attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of Gage R&R studies and Process Capability principles.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Hands-on experience with ERP software, preferably IQMS.
Pay Range
$104k-133k DOQ
