The East Troy Community School District has an opportunity for a full-time Head Groundskeeper. A Groundskeeper helps maintain the grounds and helps to maintain the physical plant facilities in a condition of operating excellence and safety so that full educational and public use of them may be made at all times. The nature of the tasks within this job description will require independent decision making and the ability to work unsupervised.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Cut the lawn using hand, power mower, and riding mower.
  • Trim and edge around walks, flower beds with clippers, weed cutters and edging tools.
  • Prune shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth.
  • Maintain Pesticides Operators Certification from State of Wisconsin and maintain through employment.
  • Maintain all grounds equipment, adhering to manufacture PM schedules.
  • Have the ability to convert equipment for seasonal use (snow removal, grass cutting).
  • Rake and bag leaves.
  • Clean grounds and remove litter.
  • Plant grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs as needed.
  • Water lawn and shrubs as needed.
  • Repair fences, gates, bleachers, playgrounds, and ball parks as needed.
  • Paint fences and playgrounds.
  • Mark all fields and parking lots.
  • Maintain basic records of daily events.
  • Maintain supply records and report as supplies are needed.
  • Develop and maintain a strategic natural turf management plan for athletic fields.
  • Serve as a building Head Custodial Sub in the event of an absence.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees work with a high level of independence and professional discretion under the general supervision of administration. The employee’s work is governed, controlled, and evaluated by acceptable professional practice, school and district policies and regulations, provisions of Wisconsin Administrative Code, direction of the supervisor, and performance standards and expectations. Professional judgment is used to ensure appropriate communication and interpretation.   • The employee must lift and/or move 25 to 50 pounds on a regular basis, as well as heavier weights as required.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to bend, sit, talk, lift, carry, move about, hear and speak.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but can be abnormally loud on occasion.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally work in outside weather conditions and be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, temperature fluctuations, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals commonly used in instruction and/or cleaning. It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials during the course of their duties. The employee may be exposed to infectious disease as carried by students.
  • The employee may be required to travel on school owned or leased vehicles.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma and one year of maintenance experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Currently have, or obtain (within 1yr), a Wisconsin Pesticide applicators license.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license that must be maintained during employment in this position.
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of all equipment associated with the position to include but not limited to small engine equipment, vehicle maintenance, and landscaping equipment.
  • Knowledge and experience in mechanics related to machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to develop positive constructive relations with students, staff, and public, and present a positive image of the district.

NECESSARY ABILITIES

  • Assists in the fertilizing and cultivating various plants and lawn areas
  • Maintains and marks parking lots, athletic fields, baseball diamonds, softball diamonds, and other district grounds and playing fields in a safe usable condition.
  • Assists in capital improvements depending upon skill, licenses, and code requirements.
  • Conducts maintenance procedures and grounds services in such a manner so that the safety and health of all persons using the facilities are protected.
  • Provides support under the direction and or guidance of the director of buildings and grounds in the areas of preventative maintenance and facility equipment repair.
  • Support tasks are to be performed independently at times and will generally be basic or semitechnical in nature.
  • Performs maintenance tasks and basic tasks of cleaning and other types of work commonly expected in the overall operation of maintaining school buildings and grounds.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and repair on district grounds equipment as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the director of buildings and grounds.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Up to $31.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
