ECHO is hiring an Automation Engineer. This role requires a proactive, hands-on approach to support ECHO’s commitment to innovation and efficiency in manufacturing automation. The ideal candidate will have an industry related BS degree and/or equivalent work experience.
The salary range for this position is $97,000 -$ 112,000 based on experience and qualifications.
This position is on-site at our Lake Zurich facility.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Play a key role in defining and advancing ECHO’s production automation capabilities.
- Oversee the design and build of automation equipment, both internally and through external vendors, ensuring systems are implemented efficiently.
- Collaborate closely with the Manufacturing Engineering team to drive ideas and projects that optimize automation systems.
- Train and support automation personnel, including technicians and production staff, on the operation and maintenance of ECHO’s automated manufacturing systems.
- Create and maintain operational procedures for both new and existing automated equipment.
- Troubleshoot automation issues remotely via phone support for 2nd and 3rd shifts, with occasional on-site troubleshooting during peak production periods.
- Stay informed about safety standards and advancements in automation technologies by identifying and attending relevant training programs
Job Experience/Skills:
- Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and ensure thorough, accurate results.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail in all aspects, including quoting, project tracking, design, build, programming, documentation, and training.
- Creative problem-solving skills with the ability to develop innovative solutions independently and collaboratively.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, balancing new system development with ongoing troubleshooting and improvements.
- Experience programming and operating 6-axis robots; familiarity with Fanuc automation programming is preferred.
- Ability to review 2D drawings and 3D designs, with a willingness to learn CAD software systems to support ECHO’s development strategies.
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM software and SolidWorks 3D design is preferred, with training provided as needed.
- Experience in machining and manufacturing custom components for automation equipment is a plus.
- Knowledge of diagnosing, troubleshooting, and programming PLC/HMI systems is desirable, with training available to develop these skills.
- Experience with low-voltage electrical panel building and wiring is preferred. ECHO provides team-based and external training to build this capability.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Automation Engineering or equivalent experience.
