Direct and manage the operations of the district childcare center. Plan and implement operations and program following the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) and district guidelines.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
Child Development Associate credential or Certified Child Care Professional credential with six college credit hours in management
Valid Child Care Center Director's Certificate issued by the Texas Department of Family Protective Services
Special Knowledge/Skills
Thorough understanding of childcare center operations
Effective organizational, communication, computer, and interpersonal skills
Ability to coordinate center functions
Ability to implement policy and procedures
Demonstrated knowledge of state childcare guidelines and licensing requirements
Ability to manage budget and personnel
Experience
Two years experience in a licensed childcare center
Major Responsibilities And Duties
Child Care Operations
Supervise, evaluate, and recommend the hiring and firing of childcare center staff*
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors
Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and printer.
Posture: Moderate standing; occasional kneeling, squatting, bending, and stooping
Motion: Moderate walking, climbing, lifting, balancing, and handing or moving materials
Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying
Environment: Work inside; exposure to noise. Occasional district-wide travel
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress and self-control in the presence of children.

Major Responsibilities And Duties
Child Care Operations
- Maintain high quality childcare standards based on developmentally appropriate practices.
- Facilitate the planning and coordination of the children's educational programs and activities.
- Assure consistent compliance with all Texas DFPS Minimum Standards, including maintenance of annual fire, health, and other inspections.
- Coordinate the annual licensing of the childcare center with Texas DFPS.
- Maintain consistent, open, and effective communication with parents while providing education training and support as needed.
- Provide reliable, accurate, and timely information about the childcare center to interested parties.
- Attend professional development seminars to maintain an understanding of the current best practices of curriculum and administrative functions of child development programs.
- Implement federal and state law, Department of Family Protective Services rule, and board policy
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
- Maintain accurate records on children enrolled in the program to include their development, attendance, immunization, and general health.
- Prepare reports to Child Protection Services (CPS) and other agencies to ensure the safety and well-being of enrollees.
- Ensure employee time records are accurately maintained and data necessary to process payroll is delivered in a timely manner.
- Develop and administer budget based on documented needs and ensure operations are cost effective and funds are managed prudently.
- Develop and implement inventory and stock control program for equipment and supplies and recommend replacement and disposal of obsolete equipment as necessary.
- Execute an effective marketing plan (both internal and external) to maintain desired enrollment.
- Oversee the training and professional development of all childcare staff.
- Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
- Articulate the center's mission to employees and other stakeholders and solicit support in realizing the mission.
- Interact with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds with sensitivity and fairness.
- Select, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and make recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal.
- Prepare, review, and revise job descriptions for childcare center positions.
- Develop training options and improvement plans to ensure exemplary operations.
- Ensure measures are in place and operating to protect students, staff, supplies, and equipment.
- Maintain safety standards conforming with federal, state, and insurance regulations and develop a program of preventive safety.
- Implement and follow district safety protocols and emergency protocols.
- Maintain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid certifications.
