What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Focus Floater Teacher position at Family Focus?

Family Focus has a regular Teacher Aide/ Floater substitute position available to support the Brunswick Facility.

General Description:

Teacher Aid substitutes/ Floaters are responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, educational, developmentally appropriate, and nurturing environment for children and a welcoming attitude towards parents.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old and possess a High School Diploma/GED
  • Must have a minimum of a CDA or equivalent (a) or be enrolled in a program leading to a CDA or equivalent, be actively participating in the program, and demonstrating progress toward the CDA or equivalent

OR

  • Have or be working towards an (b) associates degree or (c) baccalaureate degree program

(a) Equivalence to CDA: A minimum of 12 college credits (semester hours) in early childhood education, child

development, elementary education or early childhood special education that encompasses the following: Child development and learning of children birth through kindergarten; family and community relationships; observing, documenting, and assessing young children; teaching and learning; and professional practices and development.

(b) Associates degrees should be in child development-early childhood education. Equivalence is defined as 60 college

credits, with 30 college credits (semester hours) in child development-early childhood education, child development,

elementary education or early childhood special education that encompasses the following: child development and learning of young children birth through kindergarten; family and community relationships; observing, documenting, and assessing young children; teaching and learning; and professional practices and development.

(c) Baccalaureate degrees should be in early childhood education, child development, elementary education

or early childhood special education that encompasses the following: child development and learning of young children birth through kindergarten; family and community relationships; observing, documenting, and assessing young children; teaching and learning; and professional practices and development. Equivalence is defined as a baccalaureate degree in any discipline with a minimum of 36 college credits (semester hours) in early childhood education, child development, elementary education or early childhood special education that encompasses the following: child development and learning of young children birth through kindergarten; family and community relationships; observing, documenting, and assessing young children; teaching and learning; and professional practices and development, including relevant field-based experience.

Requirements:

  • Apply for and maintain a professional membership with the MRTQ Registry.
  • Continue to pursue education/training.
  • Must be reliable.
  • Must be flexible in receiving assignments or adapting to changes in the program.
  • Must be physically able to perform the job of a teacher of young children.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervision/Care of children in their daily routines.
  • Set up and maintain the classroom environment, making changes in the environment as necessary to meet educational or safety needs.
  • Assist in cleaning the classroom, toys, bathrooms, and other areas of the Center as needed.
  • Work cooperatively with Teachers and the Program Director.
  • Assist in planning developmentally appropriate activities.
  • Assist in implementing curriculum to best serve the developmental and individual needs of the children.
  • Assist in observing and assessing children on an ongoing basis.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining children’s portfolios.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining classroom portfolios.
  • Assist with teacher/parent conferences.
  • Respect confidentiality of families and staff.
  • Maintain open communication with parents and lead teacher, share necessary information about their child’s daily activities.
  • Protects all children from physical punishment or verbal abuse by anyone in any program activity, and immediately reports any such incident to the center director or person in charge.
  • As needed attend Curriculum Planning meetings, Staff meetings, Team meeting, Annual Training Day, and other meetings as needed to promote a quality program.
  • Prepare and follow through on yearly Training Plan, to include CPR/First Aid Certification. As of this review Licensing requires a minimum of 30 hours a year of training.
  • Ensures appropriate curriculum using Creative Curriculum and Maine Early Learning Guidelines.
  • Use equipment and supplies safely and conscientiously, keeping physical environment clean and orderly. Help maintain facility in a safe and satisfactory condition.
  • Inspect the school site and equipment for potential safety hazards; taking corrective action or informing the Supervisor to prevent injuries.
  • Contribute to the operation of the center by participating in staff meetings and sharing information gained through attendance at workshops and professional reading.
  • Work as a member of a team to ensure continuity and high standard of quality in all classrooms in the center.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Director or Lead Teacher.

Expected hours: 20 – 25 per week
