Classification: Non-Exempt
Job Status: Full-time, in clinic, not remote.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Medical Coder contributes to the integrated clinic network by assuming responsibility of the coding for all charge tickets.
The Medical Coder is responsible for the completion and coding of all CPT and ICD-9 codes as well as providing constructive feedback to the MD’s and PA’s.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Codes all daily charge tickets with the appropriate ICD-9 and CPT codes.
- Codes all add-on labs and urine cultures from the lab.
- Enters all charges into the computer.
- Remain current on any/all developments in coding changes and insurance guidelines to include; added/deleted codes,
LMRP and NCD changes or additions, Medicare etc.
- Provides feedback to MD’s and PA’s regarding covered diagnosis, dictating the appropriate E&M and pre-op levels, appropriate diagnosis to attach to diagnostic test etc.
- Attends at least one seminar annually, on coding related issues, as stated in our voluntary compliance manual.
- Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3-6 months of related experience and/or training.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Familiar with medical terminology.
- Able to use Family Practice abbreviation list.
- Ability to operate computer, designated printer, copy and fax machines and any other equipment necessary to perform job.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Low risk of exposure to biohazard materials and bodily fluids.
TRAINING:
Training will include a 90-day orientation or until the basic job knowledge of the position has been achieved. Any training period can be extended or shortened based upon the complexity of the position.
