Kennel and Cat Attendant
Position Overview: As a Kennel you will play a crucial role in the daily care and well-being of dogs under our care. You will ensure their comfort, health, and safety throughout their stay, while also supporting our adoption efforts and providing exceptional service to our guests.
Key Responsibilities:
Dog Care and Feeding:
- Methodically take dogs outside to relieve themselves, prioritizing those with specific needs (e.g., puppies, geriatric dogs, dogs on medications).
- Provide breakfast according to dietary requirements (puppy, adult, prescription formula) and administer medications as directed.
- Ensure all dogs have access to clean water throughout the day and monitor their well-being during feeding times.
Kennel Maintenance:
- Clean and disinfect all dog enclosures, including walls, gates, and floors, to maintain a sanitary environment.
- Wash food and water bowls, as well as bedding and blankets, ensuring cleanliness and comfort for animals.
- Provide clean blankets and bedding daily, ensuring laundry tasks are managed promptly.
Health Monitoring and Documentation:
- Document any health observations (e.g., injuries, illness symptoms).
- Monitor animals for signs of distress or health issues, promptly reporting concerns to management.
Interaction and Enrichment:
- Spend quality time with each dog daily, engaging them in play and assessing their behavior and temperament.
- Assist in promoting animals for adoption by being knowledgeable about their personalities and needs, helping potential adopters find their ideal pet.
Daily Operations and Guest Interaction:
- Prepare meals and provide evening care, including clean water and bedding, before securing animals for the night.
- Conduct final rounds to ensure all animals are comfortable and all necessary notations are made in animal charts before the end of the day.
- Maintain guest safety and provide courteous assistance during tours, showings, and meet-and-greets, representing our organization positively.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in animal care or a related field preferred (Not Required)
- Ability to handle animals of various sizes and temperaments safely and compassionately.
- Attention to detail in following medication and feeding schedules accurately.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with colleagues, visitors, and potential adopters.
- Passion for animal welfare and dedication to providing exceptional care and support to shelter animals.
Working Conditions: This position involves working primarily in a kennel environment, with exposure to animal hair, cleaning chemicals, and outdoor weather conditions. Physical stamina and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs is required.
