Job Description: Director, Observability Platform Technology The Role Fidelity is seeking a seasoned Director, Squad Leader to join our Observability Platform COE. You blend deep engineering expertise with a passion for delivering results. You are the end-to-end gatekeeper of the squad mission, strategy, and tactical execution associated with delivering on strategic priorities. You will partner with other Fidelity leaders to influence the broader strategic decisions, roadmaps, and resource requirements, set and refine the mission, and lead an engineering team to execute and deliver. You will ensure alignment on the “what” and “when” of the work to be performed through ongoing planning and prioritization of a product backlog. You will enable squad members to work iteratively, innovate through testing and experimentation and learn from failures while celebrating success. You are committed to developing your own expertise and knowledge to ensure you bring the latest thought leadership to your role. In this role you will be: Defining, refining, and communicating the squads' mission and roadmap to motivate and build squad and partner support and alignment. Anticipating, discovering through ongoing interaction with, and prioritizing client / partner needs to serve as their voice and guide execution of the squad. Partnering with teams across the enterprise to enable delivery of key capabilities to facilitate adoption of the enterprise observability platform. Making informed trade-off decisions to strike the right balance between quality, cost, and timelines. Defining, evaluating, and communicating results against acceptance criteria. Inspecting and evaluating progress and removing impediments. Measuring performance against established objectives and KPI’s that deliver on agreed upon business, technology, and people results. The Expertise and Skills You Bring Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a technology related field (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering, etc.) required. Proven leadership skills demonstrated ability to quarterback engineering teams to deliver scalable robust solutions. Forward thinking and strategic mentality to be able to recognize and connect patterns to both improve and simplify your platform user’s experience. Deep Expertise in Observability technologies and practices and well-grounded in the knowledge of engineering and continuous delivery practices. Deep Expertise with opensource observability ecosystem in particular OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Prometheus, OpenSearch, ELK Expertise with observability SaaS providers such as Datadog, Splunk and Cloud Providers such as AWS/Azure Deep understanding of the different Observability approaches and how to apply them and when. Deep understanding and experience in cloud and platform security You have a strong understanding of IT services, IT Service Management in an Enterprise context and cloud delivery models including IaaS, SaaS, and PaaS; automation; containers; auto-scaling, virtual compute, storage, and networking; identity and access management; configuration management, incident management, problem management, asset management, logging and audit. Passionate about technology and delivering solutions to solve business problems. Prior Experience with AI in observability domain is a plus. Experience with large scale Observability migrations is a plus. Creative thinking to drive industry leading observability solutions. Extensive experience providing observability platform solutions for complex and varied technology stacks and use cases. Extensive architecture experience designing and building highly scalable, resilient, and secure platforms. Deep understanding on how to design and deliver frictionless platform onboarding experiences for a wide variety of users and use cases. Experience working with vendors to drive roadmap and requirement conversations. Strong understanding of coding patterns and engineering best practices. Extensive experience with CI/CD practices and technologies. Exceptional mentoring and coaching skills. Recognized for driving decisions collaboratively and ensuring follow through with outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Strong stakeholder leadership skills and the ability to manage priorities and capability requirements aligned to business needs. Passionate about technology and in particular observability You establish and maintain strong relationships as you work collaboratively across the enterprise to deliver business outcomes and seek out the expertise of colleagues to advise on your approach. You are intellectually curious and model a culture of continuous learning, mentoring, and coaching.
