What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Operator position at Fitts Industries, Inc.?
Fitts Industries’ mission is to be a world leader in the wood products industry. By committing to people, technology, and a never-ending process of improvement, we will provide our customers the highest level of quality and service. Our work week is Monday through Thursday from 7:00 AM until 4:30 PM with a 45 minute lunch and Friday’s 7:00 AM until 11:00 AM.
The CNC Operator is responsible for loading stock materials – such as wood – into the tools and machines attached to and controlled by the main CNC machine. A CNC operator must run or guide certain tools or parts, oversee the production of the products and ensure that the quality is up to standard.
The CNC Operator must be detail-oriented and have a mechanical aptitude. They’ll need to check that everything is running smoothly, and they’ll have to pay attention to any areas that aren’t working quite the way they should.
The CNC operator is tasked to load the programs that run the tools. They will also choose different settings depending on the requirements for the project. They might test the machine’s efficiency or try out a new program, and they can sometimes adjust the machine to increase efficiency.
If something breaks or isn’t working correctly on the CNC machine, it’s their responsibility to figure out what is going wrong and how to fix it. They can then make repairs themselves or put in a work order for maintenance to repair.
The CNC operator will sometimes be asked to calibrate the machinery, which makes strong math skills a plus. They may also need to keep a record of the tools used, procedures followed, and scheduled maintenance. Many CNC operators are also tasked with cleaning machines and making small repairs.
